Have been reading forum for some time. First post. I am looking for your best loads using Sierra 75 gr bullets for my Roberts. I have Varget and several IMR powders on hand. Thanks in advance.

are you an experienced reloader? in my experience, i had horrible results with that bullet, in accuracy, and its way too light for edible game ..

i started by using the 85 gr load data and working up .. if you know what that means, and are experienced, thats a good starting point .. if you don't, then DON'T

The rifle that I have been using is one I built using a Savage 200 long action and an Adams and Bennet .257 Roberts barrel. I have shot 1/2" groups with 87 gr Speer TNT bullets with it so far. I found these hollow point 75 gr bullets at a gun show so I thought they might work well on coyotes. No, I don't eat coyotes. Tries Varget and got a 3/4 " group. Am going to try IMR 4831 when I have time.

I do want to thank everyone for their kind help. Clearly, you have to be with the in crowd to get help and answers. Will keep reading forms though since they do provide good information.

Also, if I might, at they risk of another Hot Core rant, I would like to thank Seafire for all the information about using Blue Dot. I always load BD by charging one and immediately seating the bullet. Have tried several cartridges with good success. Thanks again.

Powders in the range of Varget and 4064 at 40 + or- a grain have worked for me. My best load in my fussy Ruger Ultra Light .257 is 39 gr. of RL-15. It actually shoots that 75 gr. bullet pretty well with that powder.

It shoots good with Blue Dot Too! Merg

I've never had great results with that bullet either. But, if you're consistently getting 3/4" groups with that rifle, barrel, bullet, and Varget, I would call that real good and wouldn't change much. Maybe vary the charge weight up/down and play with the seating depth . Maybe even try different primers.

And don't be too concerned about the "in crowd".

i think its more that there's very little people experienced with that light of a bullet in the bob ... my own experience did not return good groups, no matter what i tried .. i went through a whole box, in a known accuracte rifle .. and rather than 3/4" that you got, i got 3 to 4" groups .. from a 1/2inch gun...

ctenn, you asked a very specific question which I did not answer because I do not have experience with that bullet weight. I have focused only on 115 gr. 117 gr. and 120 grain.bullets as I would only use my Ruger Ultralight as a deer gun, not a varmint gun.
