Picked up my 9.3 X 62 CZ yesterday. I think I like it,... alot. I have a question about loads for this cal. Thanks to many of you on this forum I have acquired a good bit of loading data for my new toy. I would like to know if Ramshot Hunter could be added to my list of powders. I have load data for H4350 and IMR4831 as well as many others. Hunter seems to fit between burn rates as these two powders. The reason I am asking is that I have a shit load of Hunter and if it will work I would like to give it a try. If hunter can be used, I could use some help with a safe starting point as well.

I have not used Ramshot, but experimented with 4350 and 4831. I found that Varget was about perfect in my 23" barrel rifle. I shoot high intensity loads (.270Win pressure), and achieve incredible accuracy and velocity with it. Kudude

Steve, The 9,3x62 is an interesting caliber to load for. The SAAMI and CIP specs are for lower pressures than for as Kudude list a 270, so this is one round that it can be safe to prudently exceed factory data. The upshot of this is that even if you could find Data on Ramshot Hunter it might be a very conservative pressure level.
If I were going to load Hunter in the 9,3x62 I would start with loads that were lower than the max loads listed for the next fastest powder and slowly work up the charges until I got the velocities I was looking for, quickly backing off at the first sniff of pressure signs. I would think you should be able to get 2300-2350fps with 286gr bullets and 2600fps or so with 250gr bullets with proper powders.
Good luck but be very careful opening the throttle............DJ

Ramshot Tac has about the same burn rate as Varget. It is also reasonably temperature insensitive. It is a Belgium made powder designed for Nato loads in 5.56 and 7.62.
Hunter reminds me of the old Winchester 760. It is also a little dirty until you get the pressures up there.
I think dj has the right idea. Creep up on 2350 fps with the 286 bullets, and see if it is burning cleanly for you there. Don't get sucked into going higher than 2550 or 2600 fps with the 250 grain bullets. I bought a bunch of Ramshot powders when John Barsness was shilling them so hard a couple years back. I really like TAC and X-terminator, but have been less impressed with the slower burning numbers.

I like 58 grains Re15 with a 286 Nosler in a 9.3 x 62. Start low with published data, as this load could be too hot for your rifle.

In his article on the 9.3x62, Ken Waters indicated that IMR-4350 was really a too slow (burning rate) powder with 286 gr bullets. He liked IMR-4320 and RL-15 the best. I've had good luck with RL-15.

See my thread 9.3x62 RL-15 285gr in the "Your Favorite Loads - Share Them With Us" forum.

I use AR2208 which is the same as Varget I think...................load is 56 gr of AR2208 behind the 270 gr speer in a lapua case with win wlr, work up load is fine in my gun may not be in yours. Shoots well in my cz.

I too have had best luck with RL-15 in the 9.3x62.

Good velocity and great accuracy.

Rl15 will work always in a 9.3x62 I use 59 grains for 2415 fps with the 286. I've also been using 65 grains of Ramshot Big Game with the 286's for 2475 fps. Pressures seem relatively low with both of these, but work up as always. The Ramshot load was one Barnsness recommended in Handloader mag. and he chronographed it at just under 2500 fps and about 50000 psi I believe. About any load I've shot in mine goes .650-.750 at 100 yards.

I also believe any 4831 and 4350 will be too slow burning to produce much velocity in a 9.3x62. The middle range powders work well, H414, RL15, 4064, Big Game, lots of others.

RL-15 is the best powder for a 9.3x62 with H414 as second choice...I just use RL-15 in max charges...It will get the most velocity and usually is very accurate.
