Help me spend $350

Very generous colleagues chipped in and gave me a Cabela's gift certificate for $350.

I would dearly love to put this toward a Leupold 6x42, but Cabela's doesn't stock the heavy duplex reticle. It would gall me to get the new scope and then pay Leupold for a reticle change when I can get the scope elsewhere for the Cabela's price but with the reticle I want.

So I'm thinking I will upgrade my reloading equipment. Option 1 is to buy a RCBS Chargemaster 1500 Scale/Dispenser at $349.99.

Option 2 is to buy a RCBS Power Unit for the Trim Pro Case Trimmer I already have. The power unit costs $209.99. I could get over the $350 level by adding three of the Trim Pro 3-Way Cutters in the calibers I use most frequently. These are $54.99 each.

And then I'll qualify for a $50 RCBS rebate to boot with either option.

Which way would you go?

Most of us spend more time pouring powder then we do trimming cases.

Sniper, once again I am in the minority. Loading for .223 in itself makes a power trimmer worth its weight in gold.

I would opt for the trimmer. Using ball powders, and there is one for every application, my Uniflo is within a tenth every time: plenty close enough for what I am doing!

When looking to spend free money you might consider what Cabelas give the best deals on.
Wait until they have one of those $200 back coupons for a $500 purchase.
What is the one item that goes to the range the most. The one item that you use the most no matter what you are shooting?
Make sure you have a good rifle rest and a

Really good spotting scope.
If you shoot at paper targets a lot, every shot will be viewed by the spotter no many how many different rifles are used.

Case trimmer all the way, it takes no time to dump powder but all day to trim a power unit would make it easy. dancing

If the scope is what you really want ask your local Cabellas if they will order the kind you want!

Thanks to all who have responded and given me things to think about. Since I am not in an extreme hurry, the suggestion to wait until I get one of those special offers from Cabela's makes sense. I think I get those about twice a year. The last time I bought a scope, I asked Cabela's about ordering a different reticle for me and was told they didn't do that. But it is worth asking again. I don't know why they wouldn't. A local sporting goods store will order from Leupold, but I don't have a gift certificate from them.

"Help me spend $350"

If you could get it to me, I can spend it FOR you.tu2

Tonight is "poker night" for me and the rest of the guys I hang with. I'm sure I can get at least $250 worth of chips even for a Cabelas's $350 certificate.

It is remotely possible I will increase the sum
a least a little , or in an extremely rare display of skilled play, substantially. But you don't have to worry about any of that...just consider it spent, I promise not to send any back to you. patriot

It will be a fun evening if you can get that certificate here in time.....

I'll be waiting (for a very short while; then I have to leave for the game) coffee

Many thanks for that link. That is some interesting stuff! Suspect I'll end up with a Chargemaster later if not sooner.

I have a Leupold 6x42 HVY Duplex sitting in the safe not currently mounted on anything. It has been on a 45-70Ruger#1 and then on a 257Rbts. Current plans??........PM me.

Gets my vote too.

Failing that, go with the Chargemaster.
