It's been moved to the political section because of complaints I received about it not belonging in Reloading.

I just can't please anyone.

Lest it go unsaid, most of us do greatly appreciate your work here on the board.

There is no pleasing everyone. Statistically, the best you can do when adjusting the thermostat is have 20% of people uncomfortable. You can probably do no better when running a board.

I thought he was nuts when he first mentioned it, but I think I'm going to have to apologize to Mike375, he was right. Suddenly we all have to lift our pinkies when using a tea cup around here. Pitiful.

Listen guys, I've had a bad day so I apologize that I am not my normal accomodating self here.

Gato- lifting your pinkie is not why a thread gets moved or someone gets banned. Believe me, to get banned you really have to work at it!

People do not get banned for posting ANYTHING related to hunting that is controversial, does everyone understand that?

To put it bluntly, what gets you banned is not only being a jerk, but being a rude, obnoxious jerk to the Nth degree. You guys would not believe the petty things people take offense to around here, and the moderators-even more significantly Don- are supposed to nursemaid 3 different viewpoints on most every argument that goes over a couple pages.

Well I'm sorry, but I sure don't see this as someones viepoint being stifled, it is more like someone who calls you up at home and starts insulting you. Are you required to listen or put up with that?

Another bone of contention I have is comparisons between this board and HA on the few times that someone actually succeeds in getting themselves banned. I am no expert on HA, and someone please correct me if I am wrong, but I believe that they get banned over there if they do something that is not approved of by the management, like question policy. Where has that happened here? On the contrary, everyone is ALWAYS allowed to question policy. Nothing may come of it, but you certainly are allowed to do it, and more importantly NO ONE has ever been banned or even scolded for doing so!

Again, what gets the few people banned from this board is being an insulting jerk who would not be welcome in a place that wants to have a pleasant atmosphere.

In addition to finding it a pleasure and meaningful, I consider it a responsibility to do the best I can to keep this forum informative and fun, and with a generally positive outlook on the art of reloading. There is MUCH to be shared and learned here, as we all know or else we wouldn't be here! I also like to keep it that way and elsewhere that I moderate. Sometimes I think (or know!) that a person is not being true to themselves or others when they post but that is life sometimes. However, as long as the subject involves reloading I feel it is more important to leave it here than change something. And I think that is how the whole group of us moderators feel. Remember, tolerate does not necessarily mean agree with.

But when a person launches attacks on someone that has nothing to do with the subject matter of this board or these individual forums, I'd say that can be intolerable.

I think these guys are doing a good job of adminstering...Got any complaints then make some suggestions, be an administrator, just don't stand in the doorway, folks are working to make this a good place to be...

I think there should be a $5.00 fine for whining.

May I offer my theory on dealing with women, as it would be appropriate to this circumstance.
I believe that no matter how I try to avoid it I will piss off some woman every day. If I have not done so, it means that I'm either dead or have not gotten out of bed. So I do it early and do it often, just to get it out of the way to verify that I'm alive and awake.

Life is just too short to put up with rude people. Some seem to think that the relative anonymity of the internet opens the door to any rude or smart a**** thing they want to say. I guess others don't care for politeness either in person or on the net. Either way they should not be tolerated.

Just my two cents. I don't know the facts of this situation and really don't care!

The moderators of any board need to do their "job." The moderators need to keep things civil and on track.

We join a board expecting this.

If someone is acting lie a "jerk" they need to be removed from the board. If they don't like it, they can start their own board and those who agree with them can join it!!

I remember a great highpower rifle board called "shooters.com." It fell apart because the moderators didn't do their job. A few jerks flamed everyone, interfered with good posts and threads and the moderators stood by with their hands in their pockets.

As a result everyone left the board and went to new homes. Now you need to visit a couple of different sites to see what is going on. Not as easy or quick as when "everyone" was on the same site.

So, stop complaining when the moderator is just trying to do his/her job.

Gurrie Fandozzi

PS - There is NEVER a reason to call someone at home and B***H them out. That behavior almost closed Florida Highpower Rifle down forever!!

I've got to agree with the original intent of this post. I've been feeling it for a while now. The "atmosphere" has DEFINITELY changed around here lately.

At one point, the "top dogs" around here bragged that there was NO CENSORSHIP. Now, it's becoming more & more common.

And it seems to be "aimed" at certain segments, or "ignored" when involving others. A good example is Don's new Classified Rules...

"Every so often some of our members feel obliged to comment on the offerings of "other members", post non-hunting related items for sale, or just post totally off topic posts.

Again, we offer our classified post sections to facilitate the sale of hunting related items. Posts should be limited to this topic. If you have other issues, take it offline please.

Continued violations of this request will result in the loss of privileges by the offending party to post in this forum.

Thanks for your cooperation.

Don"

This showed up as soon as somebody questioned the price of Ray's latest rifle offering. Sure enough, the management jumps in to the rescue & starts putting "policies" in place. Hey, it's a free market. If it's priced right, it will move. Price something too high & it won't sell. And if it IS too high, somebody will say something. Accept that, or adjust your price.

I've also noticed the whole flavor or mood of the forum changing. It's not as much "fun" any more. Way too many arguments. (Yes, I've been drug into a few, so I'm not claiming innocence.) There are too many good posters that I don't see any more. And others that I really enjoy don't seem to post as much. (I find myself starting to fall into this groove as well. I don't post as much, and lots of times I just read. I don't even hit the forum as regularly as I used to.)

Banning, censorship, etc... it NEVER happened in the past, and posters always seemed to work it out just fine. Some guys took some good hits along the way, and if it didn't work for them, they went away. Now, it seems like a select few have "protection", and some of the management is getting increasingly less tolerant and thin-skinned. While most of the moderators/management are low profile, a few of the moderators/management are guilty of about 90% of this.

But, probably the most telling, is watching the Moderators Forum. No, we can't see inside it, but we can see that within just a few months, the number of threads there went from ZERO to now over 200! What's the big secret? This place was always known for it's tolerance & openness. Now it seems like there is a constant back room meeting taking place.

Another member pointed out to me a few years ago that you could tell how well this place was run, BY THE POSTERS, by the complete lack of any activity in the Moderators forum. It made sense, and I actually noticed from time to time that it always remained at "0 threads". Not any more....

I still like it here, and certainly appreciate Saeed's generosity, but it is definitely changing. I'm not sure if it has grown too big, or what the problem is, but it's changing, and unfortunately not for the better...

Cold Bore,

You bring up some valid concerns, and I would like to answer them as best as I can here.

For those of you who have not seen the post in question, here is a link:

https://forums.accuratereloading.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/2711043/m/998102132/r/120104132#120104132

Cold Bore, if you read it again you will see that NOWHERE is there questioning about price! What happened is the rifle was posted elsewhere (African Hunting) the poster made mention of that (Ray Atkinson, whom I have never met lest someone think I'm covering for anyone here!) and a person jumps in and to be honest replies in a rude manner. And of course things go downhill from there but geez, NEVER anywhere was price complained about! Plenty of name calling though.

So that is what precipitated the post at the top of the classified forum. If it had been you, Cold Bore, posting something and getting insulted for it I would have felt just the same. It may seem silly of us who know how to highlight, copy and paste, and be able to also link images, but some people are still learning that stuff, it is also important to keep that in mind.

Well maybe that gives you an idea about how much stuff is talked about and decided to NOT do anything with! And there is other stuff, like Bakes went on vacation so there was a little banter when he got back, etc. But a few years ago, when did you see someone being called a, uhhh, "rooster lollipop" by someone else in the classifieds who had no intention of even an interest in the item being listed?

Again, I'll repeat what I said:
Again, what gets the few people banned from this board is being an insulting jerk who would not be welcome in a place that wants to have a pleasant atmosphere.

Even here, you notice that the person causing the friction did not get banned, but there was just a reminder on what is considered reasonable and polite behavior.

In my very naieve opinion, the board has grown quite large and there are people of many different cultures participating. So rather than rely on faith that everyone knows how to behave in a globally accepted way, there have to be some ground rules in place. They were simply not talked about in earlier times because we collectively thought anyone mature enough to have an interest in firearms would also know how to behave in public forums.

Obviously in certain situations that has proven not to be the case.

As a last word, I know that I have learned stuff from your posts so I hope you continue to do so!

Warmest regards to everyone,

Mark
