I have an idea, everybody logs on to Boyed's new site and post a link to Steve's site or any other site Boyed has an issue with. Then we will all be banned and this will be over.

Again,as with the match king thread.you guys are talking about something you know nothing about. If all of you don't understand why we don't want links to a money making site posted on our FREE site.I feel sorry for you...Good day

I don't really care who's right or who's wrong here, I just don't understand why it makes any difference if someone posts a link to a money making site from a free site. It seems like people do it all the time here on AR and no one seems to get hurt by it.

Why would you feel sorry for me for not understanding this?

Gentlemen,

I am trying to get Walter all sorted out for our hunt next month, so haven't got the time to check on all the forums.

But, thanks to a friend, he pointed me to this thread.

As you all know, this site is non-commercial. The sole purpose of its existence is that our fellow hunters and shooters from all over the world to meet here and share with us some of their experiences.

A sort of a cyber campfire.

We have absolutley no objection to anyone posting a link to his site, or to other sites they deem might be of interest to other members.

In fact, I would like to encoursge you to post links to other sites of interest. It certainly helps me discover other sites, without having to look for them.

I hope this clarifies our policy.

I remember a while back that I registerd at one website, and put the address of AR in my signature.

I got an email from them saying that is against their rules to post a link to a COMPETING website

I wrote back to them and apologized for registering, and asked them to remove my name from their database, as I sure would not want to visit that site again.

Anyway, we do not consider ANY hunting or shooting website as competition to us.

We wish them all the best of luck, and the more there are, the better.

Saeed, as always, is a gentleman. Thank you Saeed for running this site the way you do.

To All:
I thought it might be of interest to post the little list of rules they have over at http://precisionhuntingandfishing.com/ (I added the bold emphasis to parts of the text.) Just going by the general tone of all of it, I don't think I'll be visiting their forums.

OK guys, I think everybody, including Boyd, gets the idea by now.

Yeah, I know, I don't have to open this thread if I don't want to (and I won't after this).

Saeed is a gracious host, Boyd made a decision that he probably regrets or wishes he handled differently, and nobody here is going to his site. So why let it degenerate into ANOTHER name-calling pissing match, that won't change anything anyway?

Well......, I got to thinking about this last night and am now completely embarrassed. Been up here in DEMOCRAT LAND WAY TOO LONG. That post of mine is similar to a DEMOCRAT with his eyes focused on a Company's Profits. The old DEMOCRAT theory of how can I get my hands on "their" loot. PITIFUL!!!

Hey Steve, I'm back to "reality" now. You just go on and enjoy wallering around in all that loot!

Id hate to see your sight get slandered all over the webb before it even gets a good start. It certianly appears that youve banned someone on your sight for doing the same thing youve done ALL OVER THIS ONE. If that is not the case, then by all means, enlighten the rest of us poor ignorant souls.

Same old Boyd, playing the arrogance card when his position gets weak.

The funny thing is, those of us that have been hanging around Steve, know that he's a bit opinionated, comes across a little strong sometimes, and sometimes even makes a mistake.

Nevertheless, Steve's site is probably one of the most useful of it's kind on the net, especially for people new to the hobby. It's certainly never been a commercial site. All of it maintained for the benefit of anyone who cares to click on it.

To try to prevent users from knowing about Steve's site is like trying to get the corner on information. Kind of a bizarre competitive strategy, if you ask me.... Accosting someone because they are offering a free knowledge base, wow! JMO, Dutch.

The long and short of it is that he got into a pissing contest with a mod, and was placed in temporary suspension while I had a chance to review what happened.

After doing so, I unsuspended him. He was "banned" for a whole of about an hour or so???

Personally I don't care if someone wants to post a few links - I even offered Steve an articles section he could keep updated if he wanted to put his info there.

It just came down to a personality mismatch - I take responsibility for it and consider the matter finished. Steve is not banned/suspended or otherise ostracized at our site.

Winmag, I don't know you, but I can tell you are pretty good at spinning words.

The short of it is *not* that "a pissing contest happened". The short of it is that your moderator has terrible judgment which resulted in idiotic decisions.

The problem is not a "personality conflict", it's a moderator who cannot distinguish between business and personality. JMO, Dutch.

I'm embarressed to think about how many years I've spent on various hunting websites, somewhere around 10. I also know some of the posters here from the first website I spent any time on, the Alloutdoors Coffee Shop.

What I've seen in all those years, and in the various chat forums is, those that have overzelous moderators are doomed to failure. Typically the forums start as relatively free, but then some troll stirs things up, and the moderators get carried away.

I haven't bothered visiting this new site, as the announcements on every forum struck me the wrong way. After seeing how the moderators have treated folks, and the hypocrisy of posting links w/o allowing links to be posted there is a big turn off.

Just a word to the wise, I've never seen a moderator cause a forum to grow and prosper, it is only through the posts of the members that a sight grows. I have seen many times where the moderator kills a sight due to a need to have things his way.

Free exchange of information requires a free running forum.

If you take things on the net personally, and seriously, you should probably seek professional help This is just a hobby and diversion. Don't take it any more seriously than that.

Paul, I like your quote under your signature. :-)

If I had a forum it would be more restrictive than this one, but only in regards to the trolls that will not leave and keep changing names, bullshitting everyone etc. I couldn't care less about all the different links and other stuff that could be helpful. I love the commercial links posted here, I never could have found nearly the stuff I have if not for them. search engine's do not always show up all the places that could supply what we are looking for as hunters, shooters and outdoorsmen.

I went there after reading the invitation I think in gunsmithing, I thought that the rules were just not worded well and still think they weren't meant as restrictive and hypocritical as they were taken. But they still rubbed me a bit off and the fact that the invitation was posted here in half a dozen forums (no I didn't count so don't say, "it was only 5" or other such nonsense) and I decided that I only need one good forum, this is the one.

The other things I would do different is a lot less catagories on my forum, since I only care about certain topics. (sorry, no muzzleloaders if I had a forum, too much work and make too much smoke). there would be a Bikini Clad Babes forum though.

I have noticed a few patterns:
1) Moderator prevents discussion outside of a narrow range, and contributions dwindle.
2) Only a few members, but regularly contribute. Anything outside of a narrow range is flamed.
3) Unmoderated forums on gun control are just flame fests.
4) Most posts follow the lines of, "I bought a gun and ammo at Walmart, and stopped at the range."
5) Very few forums have contributors that do anything new or can tolerate reading anything new. AR is an oasis of intelligent and polite contributors, relative the the rest of the forums out there. That's right, this is as good as it gets.
