I will be getting a Blaser R93 in 9.3 x 62 caliber.

I am wondering if anyone has had experience forming 9.3 x 62 brass from 30-06 brass. I know one can buy the 9.3 x 62 brass. I have a good supply of 30-06 brass. I notice that case forming dies are available but expensive.

Can one fire form such a case after running a 30-06 case through a 9,3 x 62 forming die> Any suggestions?

Thanks

Just a normal lube and size thru my RCBS 9.3x62 dies. The RCBS manual describes a method where you first expand the case neck to greater than .366" and then create a false shoulder but that hasn't been necessary on any of my 9.3 rifles.

I formed a hundred or so .30-06 brass to prove I could but now I just buy Graf brass and save the -06 stuff for my next -06 Wink

Roll EyesWhen sizing up that much it may behove you to expand in a number of steps.A good lube and polished expanders makes the job a lot easier. beerroger

Be sure to check your case length after cold forming as they will come out about 2.456" as I just ran a neck lubed 30-06 case over a 8mm, .358, and 9.3 expander..
Book max. length for the 9.3X62 is 2.441"
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is what I did when fire forming X62 brass out of 30-06 brass..
1. Trim 30-06 brass back to 2.44" as I don't have a 9.3 pilot for my case trimmer..
2. Wrap one wrap of scotch tape (= +.004) just above the extractor groove to keep the case centered in the chamber (factory CZ)as there is a difference in case dia. just above the extractor groove between the two cases..
3. Charge case with Bullseye 3 to 5 grains and fill case up to bottom of neck with corn meal and top off with a tight wad of paper towel..
4. It can be a pain to feed the fire form load into the chamber with Mauser type actions but after doing a bunch I got the hang of it..
