Die set question

I need to get a die set for a RCBS Rock Chucker. Cabelas has RCBS and Redding die sets but both are neck resizing only. Do I need a separate full lenght resizing die or are there sets available with FL. From what I've read full lenght sizing is the way to go. RCBS also has an X-Die that claims to eliminate the need for triming. Is that a consideration?

Standard die sets should come with a full length sizer and a seater. Other sets can be had with neck dies, bushing dies, but the normal is a FL die.

I don't know about a die that eliminates trimming, never heard of it and can't imagine how it would. Let your brass grow too long and see what kind of problems you have!

Cool

Pappy,

A little short on the details about what you want to load but from your questions I assume (makes an ass out of you & me - ass+u+me) that you simply want to load a cartridge for hunting or general shooting not for a particularly refined purpose.

I'd recommend a Full Length Die set as a reloading starting point for a standard factory rifle.

Neck Sizer's are for more advanced reloader's who understand the nuances of what they are used for; for a novice I would recommennd initially avoiding Neck Sizer's.

I've no expereince with X-Dies although their claim to fame as you state is the advantage of not having to trim the cases sized in these Dies.

For trimming purposes for a novice with one or two Die Sets and starting to reload I would recommend the Lee Cutter and Trimmer Sets, available for most standard catridges. They are VERY inexpensive and easy to use.

A F/L Die Set affords the novice the oportunity to focus their efforts on the correct Die adjustments, powder selection, bullet seating and generally assembling good, safe and functional ammunition.

Cheers,

HELLO THE CAMPFIRE:
Pappy, from reading yur other posts, I know that you use a pump and an auto, for these you really should use a full length sizing die. Since it is 30-06 I do not htink that you will have aproblem with the case getting longer. I do not remember what your other rifle is, but it was a bolt action I beleive. It is simple to measure the length of the cases that you reload, but if you don't reload very hot calibers you should not have a problem with case length untill you have about used up the case.
I fulllength sie all of my reloads so that I am sure that they will function in diff. rifles

Is it safe to let for a 58 year old man run around in the woods unsupervised with a high powered rifle?
