Does not look like Qualcart is going to produce any brass for it this year. I have a bunch of 416 Rigsby brass and 500 AR dies but have never fire formed anything. I need some "how to" with some real numbers.
Help?
Thanks

Not an AR-15 rifle but 500 AR (Accurate Reloading) dangerous game wildcat round.

I am wanting the procedure for fire forming cases from 416 Rigsby cases. I am thinking a charge of pistol powder and corn meal with a wax plug but how much and and what kind of powder?

howdy --
if you don't have my cell number, PM me

short answer is

take dies and remove the expander
use imperial size wax, and screw in the sizer die too big

keep sizing down until it just BARELY will chamber in your rifle (making shoulder)

don't bother with cornmeal (though this works)
pistol powder and 2 shotgun patches in the case

you'll need to work up the charge till you get well formed cases

trim the cases, and reload as normal

i use a harbour freight mini chop saw, that i make an L shaped tail stock for, and a screw to set depth, to rough trim the cases

opinions vary band of bubbas and STC hunting Club

Jeffeoso

could you post a picture of your "l-shaped tail stock"?

Thanks. I have some 450 Dakota that I might try using someday. I am on the wait list for another 100-200 Quality 500 AccRel brass when they do a run.

the rule of thumb for case forming loads is 1/10th case capacity with Bullseye. So if the unformed case has a 100 grain capacity, the charge would be 10 grains of Bullseye. No cornmeal, etc, just the powder charge, fired with the muzzle elevated to keep it back against the primer. I have used this on several cases up to 300 H&H with good success.
