An aquaintence of might says he has(what he referred to as) a 7.62mm Argentine mauser that has a 29 inch barrel. A friend of his scrounges up ammo for him at the gun shows. But what cartridge would this actually be?
That rifle would take the 7.65x53mm Mauser cartridge, otherwise known as the 7.65 Belgian.
Norma makes this ammunition in 180 grain bullet weight and it cooks out of a 29.1 inch m1909 Argentine barrel at 2598 (average of four cartridges) feet per second.
Addendum Denton answered the question. I sent my post while there were no replies, his was obviously on the way. I don't like trying to look like a know-it-all...but it is hard...RR

I, too, have had a "love affair" with this cartridge for many years, as my very first "surplus" rifle was a '91 Argy, acquired back in the '60's. In my mind, this is a very underated round-perhaps because of the bullet size. My current "favorite" is an Argy Carbine. I cleaned it up, glass bedded it, and it'll shoot MOA if I do my part...
I have a 1909 with a 29" barrel, I bought it from Century about 9 years ago, paid $89. I cleaned it up and the barrel looked almost new, I headed to the range with some Milsurp ammo. When I got there ther was one other guy there, he had a Ruger Stainless steel in 7mm rem mag, Leupold scope, shooting Federal premium. When he saw me with the Mauser, he asked me to move further away from him, he didn't want to be close to me when it blew up! I put up a target, and fired 5 quick rounds, I didn't have a spotting scope with me, so after he finished shooting, we went down range, my target had 4 rounds touching, with the 5th about an inch out, he had a 3 shot group in about 3". He was pissed, packed up his rifle and left.

I also have a love affair with this cartridge. I have an unaltered Model 1891 that my grandfather owned. The barrel could be in a little bit better shape, but it still shoots plenty good. I recently bought some Hornady bullets for it and will start reloading for it soon.
The 7.65 Argentine is a very good catridge that suffers from a lack of commonly available components, especially brass. What I did when I shot one years ago was purchase a form die from RCBS that allowed me to run a 30-06 case innto it and then simply trim to length.

I'm just reading your question and I see that you are talking about 7,62 argentine. The caliber is 7,65 argentine , if it is 7,62 is a 308 winchester. Here in Argentina we have both of it. Good shooting guillermo
