Any of the medium burn rate powders like Universal is a good choice. I also like Unique & WSF. All are close in burn rate, fill the case well & offer a moderate pressure curve. Just don't load them really light as they will leave a lot of unburned powder.

AA#7 was specifically designed for the 9mm Parabellum; that's why I use it. Its spherical shape makes it meter well in my powder measures. But I can't say if it's the BEST.

Nice thing about Unique, it can be used in just about any handgun (and rifle for that matter) cartridge.

The best powder I have found for the 9mm is Alliant's PowerPistol. I have also used Bullseye with good results.

I use Power Pistol.

It depends what you want from a powder.

Clean
Cheap
Powerful
Available
accurate
safe
consistent
low flash for nighttime shooting
Meters [powder measure based on volume] well
Works well with other cartridges you may load.

There are some odd properties:
Power pistol looks and smells like Bullseye, and the only way I can tell them apart is with density.
800X has large flakes that have burned holes in paint it landed on.
H110 smells good when it burns.

I use Power Pistol, because it gives the most power in loads I develop. There are more powerful powders based on what load books say, but the difference is small.

I'm using longshot....only because I have it..... and it works quite well

Given my druthers, I'd find a ball powder for easy metering.

Longshot isn't at all bad but I still prefer a ball powder.

IMO, TG should NEVER be used by a newb reloader. The charge vol. is very small, the pressure curve very steep & the load range very narrow. All this adds upto almost no room for even the smallest error. Stick w/ a good medium burner that fills the case well, like Unique, WSF, Universal or PP. Leave TG to the guys trying to save 2/10 of a penny on their loads because that is really all it's good for. There are several powders that offer slighty better properties & occupy almost twice the volumn in any case. As always, JMO, but TG is a KB waiting to happen, especially in high pressure pistol rounds.

Reloading 9mm -- gawd!

Hodgdon should have a "powder burn rate" chart on their site. Look at a few/several load data manuals and see what sorts of powders are being used in 9mm. Generally one comes up repeatedly for a wide range of bullet weights and velocities.

I've never looked at reloading 9mm. The brass is just too damned small to mess with.

And now, selling at $1 to $2 per SHOT, reloading 9mm makes sense.
