Guys, I am confused. Hornady lists all kinds of Superformance ammunition but now that the Superformance powder is available from Hodgdon, there is very little load data. For example, Hornady has Supreformance ammo for the .257 Roberts and the .338 RCM, but Hodgdon does does not show any such Supreformance loads and neither does the newest Hornady Manuel. What gives?

The Superformance powder available to handloaders is not the same as used in the Superformance loaded ammo. The Superformance ammo uses custom blended powders specific to the cartridge being loaded.

The Superformance ammo replaced their Light Magnum line, which was the old "extra" power stuff with specially engineered powder blends. The specific Superformance powder is different stuff.

Funny. That is not what is published as the SP powder is stated to be a release of the same.

Now you can load your ammunition with the same powder that Hornady uses in their factory ammunition. Hodgdon SUPERFORMANCE was developed to for rifle shooters that reload for the 22-250 Remington, 243 Winchester, 300 Ruger Compact Magnum (RCM) and the 300 Winchester Short Magnum (WSM) and others (see below). This powder travels faster than most traditional powders. SUPERFORMANCE powder is a smooth metering spherical powder that flows freely through a powder measure.

Everyone used to whine that they didn't have access to this powder. Now you do

Light magnum is NOT the same load as super performance. Not by a long shot

Apparently the one released to reloaders is what they use for the few specific cartridges listed, but Hornady makes Superformance loadings of many, many cartridges which use different blends. Clearly, the powder which gives 100 fps + velocities in a 300 Savage with 150 gr bullet cannot be the same as one which gives top velocities in a 7 mm magnum with 162 gr bullet.

This is another of the spherical powders Hodgdon® Powder Company and Hornady® Manufacturing introduced to answer the frequently asked reloading question: "Can I buy the powder used in the Hornady Superformance factory ammunition?" Superformance delivers striking velocities in cartridges like the 22-250 Remington, 243 Winchester and 300 Winchester Short Magnum. Velocities well in excess of 100 fps over the best published handloads and even larger gains over factory ammunition! Because this propellant is tailored for specific applications, the number of cartridges and bullets is limited, but where it works, it really works!
