I've ended up with a bunch of these Remington 300 gr JHP 45-70 bullets....., can anyone recommend a good, low recoiling, plinking type load (prefer no fillers) using these bullets? Thanks!

I use 56.1 grains H4198 in Starline cases. They don't hold as much as Winchester so be careful with those Hodgdon loads. Love shooting precision and long range. Big bores too! Recent college grad, started a company called MK Machining where I'm developing a bullpup rifle chassis system.

lozeau Not all 45-70 firearms are created equal. A "plinker" in some could be a "loudenboomer" in others. Be careful what you ask for. JMHO Ray Arizona Mountains

For light plinking load try 10-15 gr Unique or 15 -20 gr Trailboss. Makes a load that is fun for anyone to shoot. Lyle "I would remind you that extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice. I would remind you also that moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue." Barry M Goldwater.

I use 30 grains of SR 4759 with that bullet in my H&R single shot. Works good. Regards, Keith

YUMAN - can those loads be used with the 300 gr jacketed bullets or are they for cast bullets? Thanks!

I'd say 15 grains would be safe with a Jacketed bullet. I have to use a cotton ball as filler to prevent hangfires. Love shooting precision and long range. Big bores too! Recent college grad, started a company called MK Machining where I'm developing a bullpup rifle chassis system.
