45-70 loads w/Rem 300 gr JHP?
I've ended up with a bunch of these Remington 300 gr JHP 45-70 bullets....., can anyone recommend a good, low recoiling, plinking type load (prefer no fillers) using these bullets? Thanks!

I use 56.1 grains H4198 in Starline cases. They don't hold as much as Winchester so be careful with those Hodgdon loads.

Not all 45-70 firearms are created equal. A "plinker" in some could be a "loudenboomer" in others.

Be careful what you ask for.

For light plinking load try 10-15 gr Unique or 15 -20 gr Trailboss. Makes a load that is fun for anyone to shoot.

I use 30 grains of SR 4759 with that bullet in my H&R single shot. Works good.

YUMAN - can those loads be used with the 300 gr jacketed bullets or are they for cast bullets?
Thanks!

I'd say 15 grains would be safe with a Jacketed bullet. I have to use a cotton ball as filler to prevent hangfires.
