Can anyone help me out with a good load for the 30-378?

I loaded some 150 grain partition with 120 grains of HBG 50. Don't know if I like that load or not. Just looking for some suggestions.

Here are some max loads I picked up from another website. I wish I could refer you direct to the site but only have my printouts. THESE ARE MAX LOADS WORK UP CAREFULLY--these are reported to have been accurate in the guys gun
180 grain partition and ball tip:
122.0 of h870
122.0 of h 50 bmg or AA8700
100.o of re19
101 of re22
101 of h 4831sc
118 of h 5010
if you are using barnes or failsafe please back these loads down at least 2-3 grains.

Also--if you have access to a barnes book they have excellent data to use and if I remember right it shows alot of these loads.
Good luck--I have a 30-378 in a sako trg-s and it has not been easy to "tame". I really don't think this is an "inherently" accurate cartridge with a 26" factory tube.
Hopefully we will both get more resoponses.

HI; 122 GRS h-870 too hot for my rifle with 180 grs nosler ballistic tip,hard bolt lifting;I trim to 2.900,c.o.l. 3.765;118 grs of h-870. H50bmg not enough velocity no sign of high pressure. h-870 118 grs velocity {3290}.Hodgdon manual listed the trimming to 2.903;Barnes 2.905,may be a little too long if going more than 118 grs or near it.

Don I went out and shot the 30-378 tonight. I shot the 150 Partition loaded with 119 grains of H 50 BMG and CCI 250 primers.

AWSOME grouping!! Even with the Weatherby gun and the 26 inch barrel. I had 2 of the 3 holes touching and the other 1/2 inch higher. I am going to try the reloader 22 and 180 grains XBT later this week when I get some time.

Rio--My sako did not like anything bigger than 150 grainers. It shoots 150 xlc's at 3650-3700 into 4" groups at 300 yds. Not great--just avg. MY local gunsmith says he gets alot of people bringing this caliber in asking him to "bless" it and make it more accurate. Just what you want to hear right!

If you are going to shoot 150 gr. bullets you will probably do better with a faster burning powder than H50BMG. Like RL 22 or H1000 to name a few.
