I read in an article that there is no difference between Winchester 296 and Hodgden H110. It also stated that Winchester manufacturers the H110 for Hodgden. I really like to use 296, however there is not alot of reloading data for it and the 45 colt. Can I substitute the H110 load data for 296?
Also, has anyone used Hodgden Little Gun with any success?

Shark Bait - To the first part of your question, H110 and W296 are both made by Primex, a subsidiary of Olin Corp.; the powders are essentially the same. I've used the data interchangeably in the 45 LC and 357 Mag. with no problems. The 45 turns into a pretty potent piece when you're using some of the heavier loads. Get a good grip.
Sharkbait and Rwest, I have listened to this debate time and again. I got tired of taking someone elses word for the answers so I asked at the Hodgdon website. here is the reply followed by my question:
Yes and Yes. The difference in the data, is simply different labs, components and other variables. I take issue with this because of the loading data that I have. If the two powders are 'identical' (his wording) then why are the loads so different? I am asking the same question - Are 296 and H110 identical powders? Is the data interchangeable?

Note that the person replied was Phil Hodgdon and that he not only states the powders are identical but that the data is interchangable.
