RL 17 or RL 19 in .416 Remington?

I need to find a new powder for my .416 Remington (400 gr Nosler Partition or Trophy Bonded) since AA4064 was recalled due to deterioration problems.

I've got a good stock of RL17 and RL19, but find no data for them, presumably due to being on the slow side. In a faster powder I've got a good supply of IMR4895, but it seems not to give the most optimal velocities. I also have the milsurp version of BL-C2, but have always regarded is as a temperamental powder that might act strangely in a big case.

Would appreciate your experiences, but please don't say "RL15" as I have none of it and don't expect to have any in the foreseeable future.

Varget at the loads in the hornady manual got me to full factory spec, even though I used TSX bullets. As I recall, the Barnes manual was even higher gr than hornady.

I have always used RL15 for my .416 Rem with a 400 grain Hornady bullet and also a 370 Grain Northfork bullet. Good Shooting.

yep .. imho rl15 or slower are way too slow for the 416 rem

varget, benchmark, 748, (or 760/h414), and h335/tac are all great choices

opinions vary band of bubbas and STC hunting Club

I don't have as exhaustive of a list of powders that I've tried compared to Rich, but I've loaded for the .416 Rem. for over 20 years and nothing came even close in accuracy to RL-15 in my rifle.
Most of my experimentation has been with various weights of Barnes bullets and a couple Hornadys.
My only regret is not trying it earlier.

From the Quickload chart RL17 looks like a possibility. But what does the *T denote?

I always ran either Win 760 or H4350 in mine, same powders in my 375 Weatherby.
RL15 was far down my list, Varget was another good one in both, and the 458 Lott.

Cheers.
