Can anyone shed some light on this for me? What causes the black podwer residue to form on the neck of fired cases? Bobby B. | ||

OK,OK, let me rephrase the question. Why am I getting the black marks on the neck of my 6/284 cases and not on my 7RM cases? Bobby B. | |||

Actually the powder gases are likely flowing back along the neck walls before the pressures are high enough to expand them and seal the chamber. It`s a common occurance. So a cool barrel that has not expanded in the chamber area would cause this?  And a chamber and barrel that has expanded somewhat form heat due to firing would not? Work hardened brass will soot up, even more so with slower powders and some powders just dont burn the cleanest in some cartridges. I found this to be the case in a couple of calibers once brass had a few reloads on it in factory cut chambers. | |||
