I went to a gun show in northern Wisconsin 9 days ago and they had primers available. One table had most Federal (no small rifle) for $40/1000. Another table had lots of CCI in all types for $34-35/1000. There were no stampedes of people buying the stuff either. Actually I saw nobody buying them.

I was probably the only sucker in the bunch. I was by his table later and he still had 3 boxes out of 4. No body was buying any thing, prices were hi, most were just lookin. lots of sks, hunting rifles and shotguns being carried and they were askin top dollar.

CCI primers available at a CT gun shop for $29 and change. Magnums a bit higher at $32 and change. I've seen most Winchesters available at another shop for $42 and change.

I think its just hard-core reloaders like us that keep buying them in bunches. Sooner or later, once all the back-orders are fulfilled, the madness will subside, just in time for Obongo to ban everything

It's simply a pay back on the cost of those outrageously expensive Safari's you blokes are putting on . Still trolling hunters along the coast in the Agulhas Current ?. Now that we feel that $2.50 gas is cheap we have to feel that $30.00 primers are a bargain.

I suspect one of the many reasons primer prices are so high has nothing to do with war, or supply & demand. How about the decline in the value of the American dollar, both at home and world-wide? America has lived beyond its means so long, we now have no choice but to experience the real effects of excessive debt.

About a week ago, I bought some primers on-line for $33 plus some pennies. Till you add shipping, and the stupid Haz Mat fee, you're looking at $40 per brick. That Haz Mat fee is BS; just a way to make more money when there is zero danger/risk involved.

Most places around here want $5 or $6 for a box of 100 primers. Best price I've seen anywhere aside from a gun show was $3.50 for a box of 100 with a 500 limit on them. At least they are actually in stock and no longer limited to 200 per sale. For the last 6 months IF you could get them and that usually meant either knowing somebody that worked there or lucking out and showing up within hours of a shipment arriving you could buy rationed primers at $5 or more a box of 100. Everybody had primers last couple weeks. Nobody was out of any type of primer. So we have that much to be thankful for and the rationing has ended in most places.

35-40 bucks SELLING price for federal21s on gunbroker these days. 35bucks, shelves FULL, at charters' country, but no fdederals.... powders OVERFLOWING here... If its not the case in your area, thank a hoarder. in houston, the situation returned to normal in august. I expect primers to settle at 30bucks, and be overflowing the shelves before xmas .. but i am STUNNED that hoarders still have any money opinions vary band of bubbas and STC hunting Club Information on Ammoguide about the416AR, 458AR, 470AR, 500AR What is an AR round? the dollar can't decline at home, prices can only inflate.. and NO, we are seeing 3% inflation .. not 17% ... living beyonds means.. WHO DECIDES? With intent, but no malice, I can't stand value OPINIONS that are tried to be wrapped up as subtle statements "of truth" The value of the dollar has NOTHING to do with the price of primers. If there are ZERO to be purchased, the issue isn't the currency ... its the SUPPLY. H O A R D E R S, AC, sole and only reason primers have dried up ... BILLIONS more being made than ever before, and the evaporate upon hitting the market, as LOWERING prices .. that means, IF the dollar could decline at home, that it is INCREASING in value .. primers were going for 100 a box, now 35 .. that means the relative value of the dollar, against the primer, has gone up UP! arggh.. sorry to be preachy, hit a nerve opinions vary band of bubbas and STC hunting Club Information on Ammoguide about the416AR, 458AR, 470AR, 500AR What is an AR round? $30-35 is the normal rate for 1000 primers, with match primers being somewhat higher. The auction sites are where the hoarders are at hawking the primers for $60-80 per 1000. Here in the PRNJ none of the shops have been getting powder, primers or bullets in any great amount. I am left with making trips to PA to get my reloading supplies. Fortunately I stocked up on powder before things started getting scarce. I am starting to run low on large and small rifle primers though.

Since I work for a hedge fund and one of our sectors is defense, I had a good idea it was coming so I was an early stocker. Very comfortably stocked with all components from bullets to primers. The government was a huge reason for the shortage. If you're a company would you rather sell for bits to individuals or would you rather sell to a gov who will pay 10x more for it? common sense

Eurocentric Is that a tongue in cheek comment about Obama banning everything or are you serious? Not sure if it is related but I notice that if you go on the Nosler site they are pretty much sold out of bullets. Are you saying that he might ban reloading ammunition? Just very curious what you (as Americans) think as we on the other side of the Atlantic get affected by any such policy change on your side. Cheers

The shortage is about ready to be over----the majors such as Remington are having layoffs right now..... Firearms demand is falling off as a result of the surge earlier this year. Componets will not be far behind....

Wideners Shooting Supply is selling the Russian Magnum SR/223 version for something in the range of 28-29.00 per thousand. Just rec'd 5,000 week ago. Supposedly a good primer for that round and lot of NM shooters are using them since others are not available.

I just bought Federal 210M primers at a local gunshop for $39.95 per box with no limit per customer. They had plenty of them but no 215M. Good shooting. phurley

If everyone keeps paying 35-40.00/1000 and thinks its a good deal...you will never get to the "real" good deal...meaning 20-22.00/1000 that we experienced just a short while ago. Hold onto your britches a few more months and you will wonder why you were willing to pay the higher prices. Eat up the supply and you will pay higher prices again.

the p0rice went up 50% after the clintons, then creeped up under gw .. at clinton election, $10bucks a brick, after clintons, 15-16 a brick, been payin 20-22 a brick till about a year ago,.. new price will be 30-35 bucks .. which means, in 17 years, primers have gone from 1 cent to 3.5 cents .. i am okay with that .. they are LOTS better than then, in quality control, and it beats the heck out of the $150 people were paying 6 months ago opinions vary band of bubbas and STC hunting Club Information on Ammoguide about the416AR, 458AR, 470AR, 500AR What is an AR round?
