I recently purchased a kenetic bullet puller at a local gun shop to pull a few bullets I had seated too deep. While making the purchase the dealer told me to be sure and not try to salvage and reuse the powder. He stated that when jarred several times in a bullet puller it will change the formulation of the compounds in the powder. As a result...it will increase the pressure in the cartridge. Although I am fairly new to reloading I have never heard or read anything such as this. Can anyone advise. Thanks in advance.

I've been reloading for 40 years and never heard of it. I think the guy who told you this is full of shit.

There is a coating put on some powders to control the burn rate, this is what he is thinking about. Of course like the others have said he is mistaken. What there IS a caution about is to not tumble loaded rounds, as that can break down the powder and essentially increase the burn rate. (I don't think it would affect compressed charges though) So he is mistaken at the least, and maybe was also trying to sell you another pound of powder on the side... Well...he wasn't smiling and he didn't sell me an extra lb. of powder. I've even kept the powder that I removed from the cartridges. I just put it in an separate container until I could touch base with a few of you guys and see what you had to say. Thanks

Tests have been done with this and shown that this statement is false as well. Tumbling loaded ammo is not a problem.

Holy smokes, where do these guys, behind the counter, come from. Just goes to show you that in retail, you are not required to know what you are selling or how it is used. NRA Patron Life Member

2nd hand lion---Maybe the guy has something. Yes he does,I know now with certainty that all the shots I have ever missed, the cartridge had been jarred. Yea thats it,that's why I missed.

2nd Hand Lion----I have heard of rounds being detonated with kinetic pullers??????? Don't know if true,I have not seen it. My take on the kinetics is that they are a good form of exercise--lot of work if you are pulling very many. The RCBS collet type work great on jacketed bullets--not good at all on cast bullets. No problem. Remove the die out of your press and run the cast bullets all the way up and latch onto them with a pair of Vise Grips go other direction with press handle and they get pulled. Cast bullets will be ruined--recast them. When I bought my RCBS collet puller back in the 60's the lock ring did not have the locking set screw--it was a pain---putting a locking nut with the set screw fixed it up.

I've been under the impression that tumbling loaded ammo was an unwise concept. I'd like to see some data to prove otherwise. Thanks.

When I was a kid...and Eisenhower was President...my dad came up with a wood crate of Ball M2 30 cal.( 30/06) ammo. He also came up with a kinetic puller, showed me how to use it, and set me to pulling those fmj bullets. We re-used the powder from that operation for years without incident. Hope this helps...
