I've told you before that I was charged by my Crony, during some load-testing with my 460 Weatherby.
Here are a picture of the Crony after the attack was stopped, and as you'll see, the 460 Wby. loaded with some 405 grs. Rem soft nose's are a good stopping rifle for those dangerous Cronys!!

That 405 expanded and took out the back? did you get a velocity reading before it went out?

Glue it? Yep, actualy, gather the pieces, and send it back to chrony for a shooters dicount... and DONT ask how I know, but they still might offer it.. and a .429 hole looks pretty simualr

460 - Looks like you flinched and pulled a little low and left. You might need to practice more - if you can afford it that is.

Looks like a classic gut shot. I would recommend waiting for a broadside shot next time.
I can laugh at you because I but a muzzleloaded sabot through mine. I learned then about how important it is to find the right sabot. I still haven't been able to laugh at my "Trophy", but maybe one day.

I have one that my buddy just wounded for me with a 338 now there is a nice lead mark on the side.

Excellent shot! It looks like a shot through the center of mass. That's the shot recommended for shooting bears a close range (within a few feet) during a charge. It seems the bullet hit it right through the heart ("H"), and it came out the tail. Incredible penetration!

I see you seem to follow that large cal / heavy bullet theory.
For shooting cronys or other similar tough targets how small of a cartridge would you recommend? Would a high vel smaller dia bullet work, or is the large frontal area needed?
If I ever do shoot one of these I don`t want it to bite me when I`m done, do you poke them in the eye or toss rocks at them to make sure they`re dead before you set your gun down?? Do you approach them from the rear or get someone else braver then you to make sure they`re down?
I need to know the right way to do this as I`ve seen these critters at the range I shoot at and may have to stop a charge one day

I tell people time and time again those damned Shooting Chrony's are dangerous! You can be around them years then out-of-the-blue, wham, you look up and that thing is closing in on yer sphincter so quickly you can't even see it...almost.

Well done sir! Hitting and stopping a charging Chrony is not something easily accomplished.

I would suggest a full body mount for your trophy room, but I think we are past that!

You may want to try some Nerf bullets.

Another classic case of poor bullet performance. I like to find mine in the offside skin. How high did it jump, or was it one of those "bang-flop" kills?

It was rotating approx. 45-50 feet up in the sky, before it came down again with a "clunck".
I rapidly worked that bolt, and got an other round in the chamber. So I stod watching it for a minute or two, ready to fire if itstill was going after me. Then I aproach it slowly from behind, with my safety OF, and with the rifle ON the shoulder. Then I touch the eyeball with the muzzle to make sure there is no killing left in it.

I had "skyscreens" and parts all over my yard. I was able to find ALMOST all of it.
I have a new one now and thats a nicer one. Perhaps it helped to show him the other one, as soon as he arrived??

A tip:
Always use a rest when you are crony'ing some powerfull rifles!! I do.

I shot one of them too, but I had to throw it away. While I didn't have to clean it (the bullet blew the guts out) I never was able to figure out how to skin it.
Oh well, probably too tough anyhow.

Judging by the exit hole, I suspect the Chrony left a good bloodtrail and you had no problem finding it.

Now, if you'd shot it with a Ballistic Tip....

Not sure why you needed a .460 Wby. I got a one-shot stop with my .416 Rigby, not that it was charging all that fast in the first place.

There seems to be enough interest here to book a Norwegian Chrony hunt. 460wby you're gonna have to be the guide.

OK, since it's True Confessions Hour, I shot one too - ON PURPOSE!

My .223 shot was a pass-thru with little immediate, visible damage like a Barnes X. It groaned and tumbled slowly backward, still attached to the tripod.

The range vultures dug it out of the dumpster about a half hour later holding a roll of duct tape with hope in their eyes....

It seems there are those who have and those who will.

A well placed shot from my 15" 450 Marlin Encore and a 300grain Barnes X does about the same amount of damage, not much left to skinnn is there.

Two Shooting Chrony's later I have learned my lesson. A 160 gr NP from my 7mm Rem Mag did much the same thing only from the front of the chrony. With all the parts laying around on the range it looked like a yard sale going on. I will have to construct a protector like PEI ROB did. That looks like it will do the trick.

I never knew anybody that shot their own chrony. I thought that always was done by the "brother-in-law" or the used to be buddy's out of work, dead-beat, broke friend that you last loaned it to!

I shot mine with a .577. I sent it back to Chrony for a warranty adjustment. Just a note saying it 'quit working'. I got it back along with another note saying that 'they could find nothing wrong or unusual with it' but they did enclose a new one in the box.

Interesting enough it just slowly fell over backwards on the tripod. I thought that the muzzle blast had just knocked it over.

I let a buddy shoot mine. He is a cop and on the SWAT team as a sniper. He wanted to check out his Redhawk .44 mag loads. I figured with all that training he would be okay. First shot he hit one of the diffuser steel support rods. It put an almost perfect loop right in the middle of that rod. Well when we stood it back up and pieced it back together it still worked. I told him since it was his now he might as well shoot it again. He did and that time all that training was being fully applied as he hit it perfect center of mass much like the one you pictured. It was not on purpose.

What can you say, it was fun to watch him squirm. Funny stuff.

I hate to admit this,but I am on my 4th Crony.The previous 3,all were one shot kills,with.358's.I don't own them any longer.It is the only caliber,that is so efficent on Crony's.Please don't ask me for the loads I used.It's kind of private.

Yeeh! More hairy chest thumping by the AR crowd. Chronys never charge. It's nervous, gun-shy tripods that jump when you shoot that kill Chronys.
