Coyote kill vs. Predatory bird kill

Boy, if I could only remember 1/4 of the things I've been taught, I'd be happy. Someone told me once that you could tell whether a coyote or a predatory bird (like an owl or a hawk) had killed a game bird by the remains. If the wings were detached and left behind it meant that one of them had made the kill, but if nothing was left except a bunch of feathers, it was the other. Who knows which is which?

John G -
I think the bird leaves the wings. I saw this while I was hunting this year. I also saw a CAT take a quail and run off after feathers were tossed all over the ground ( no wings ). Now maybe a coyote can get the CAT.
