Greetings all,
I have loose horns to 2 smallish kudu (long story) and a nice impala ram. Also have several full and backskins of various PG critters. I also have some tails of some PG. I have a request of my AR friends.
Would you kindly post pics or describe ways you have displayed loose horns? And regarding the tanned skins--they seem too hard to use as throws...can this be fixed? Thanks so much to all for your suggestions in advance.

kudu

We used some of our backskins for seat covers on our dining room chairs. Came out nice and we let the tails hang out the back. Great conversation pieces. I you have enough skins a throw can be made by putting the skins together. The kudu horns can be made into very attractive lamp poles.
You might want to mount the impala on a plague or as a Euro if you have the skull.

Mark,
Thank you for your response. I went back over the pictures/descriptions of your trophy rooms somewhere and caught those chair descriptions. How fascinating! What time is supper at your house usually? I bring excellent wine!
Seriously, I have not forgotten our Africa conversations and I am still on pause. Parents health is quite a setback at this time. We will be in touch.

Jeff

Impala horns can make great handles on a pedestal or cabinet. The skins can also be incorporated into a pedestal. As for the kudu horns, I saw a very cool bed once in which a kudu horn was put on each of the four bed posts. Just some ideas.

If the skins are stiff, they can be rehydrated and then stretched and trimmed. Use them to decorate pedestal furniture as in panels. They accent the mount. You can use a skull/horn mount on a small piece of furniture and use the skins to decorate the panels of the piece. You might speak with an experienced Taxidermist on other options such as soft gun cases, rifle slings etc. LDK

They are stiff...couldn't quite use them as throws at this point. Thanks for all the advice.

You didn't mention if you have the skulls. If so they can make a nice display

One of the best I have seen or heard of is using the skins to make a table in the shape of Africa. A wood frame is used to make the continent's shape then small pieces of various skins are cut and placed to resemble the countries. I'd love on of these in my trophy room one day.

I have a throw rug made from hides, if memory serves me we used common springbok, black springbok, white springbok, bontebok, eland and Zebra. The center of the rug is a map of Africa using the Zebra.
