what color on the walls makes the animals really pop. I have natural mohogany wainscote 3feet off the floor but have not decided on the color of the walls.

Since antlers/horns are usually dark colored, use a light color on the walls. I have a Sika that has very light colored tips and looks small unless you turn a certain light on, then he looks huge.

Stick with lighter colors and play with your lighting if you do not like the way an animals looks.

I agree with Wendell. We used to have "Roman Red" walls at our place, but my wife, thank GOD, redecorated and I think our room came out great. jorge

Look at trophy room books and you will see that the brighter the wall color the better. I have bright english red/orange at my office and it really makes the trophys stand out. I have dark red at home which is not as good at making the mounts stand out. I believe it is a question of contrasting colors between the mount and the wall that is most important. For example, white would be best with a black bear but not good with a Polar bear. The worse thing you can do is match wall color with the mount. Any of your NA deer/elk would look their worse on a brownish/tan or natural wood wall. Good luck.

Lighter colors are generally better for above mentioned reasons. Lighter colored walls will also make the roon appear bigger, brighter, and more inviting. I've got a sand like color (I forget it's actual name at the moment) and it works really well with the animals.

The browns of many mounts are best complimented with green, blue being the second choice. Same holds for kitchens green floors or walls to compliment wooden cabinets.

My wife did a faux finish in our great room (sort of a rustic yellow/gold).

We have a Venetian Plaster in our dinng room. Very cool, but expensive. Easy to repair.

Here's a link to some photo's I posted a while back of my room. Ours is also a living room and dining room and I did not want white walls. In fact, most of the compliments we get from folks is on the colors. The walls are olive drab, the ceiling mushroom and a cream trim.

I think it gives the room a nice relaxing feel and the colors contrast well with the wood floors and the animals.

White walls just feel too sterile and impersonal to me. If you want something light colored, pick a real light earth tone.

I don't like white as a background, the contrast is too great. My walls (not by my doing) are a bit beige-like, light enough for contrast, but it softens it all up a bit...

Frans

I don't think a guy can go wrong with earth tones of browns, greens, or tans. Heck, more than likely it was those three colors that convinced your brain you needed to pull the trigger in the first place....

Duck: It's a Ralph Lauren brand of paint from Loew's. I'm trying to find out the exact name for it. jorge
