I just got an excited phone call from my fiance' that a "digger thing" just pulled in the driveway to start digging the foundation. Weve been working with a builder and he was supposed to call us a few days before they started work, but I guess he missed us. Either way, theyre digging the hole now. The "room" will be 28x30 and part of a total 28x30 addition. Pics will follow. If I would have known they were starting today, I wouldn't have mown that part of the lawn yesterday!!! Now that the have stared you wont have to mow untill they are done! Cry 'Havoc,' and let slip the dogs of war; That this foul deed shall smell above the earth With carrion men, groaning for burial.

I suspect by the time the addition is finished, you will be used to contractors not doing what they say they will. It's the nature of the beast. But good luck and keep us informed, I have a simular project planned. "There always seems to be a big market for making the clear, complex."

Hugh: What's the square foot price going for in Michigan these day? Just trying to get an idea. Thanks, jorge USN (ret) DRSS Verney-Carron 450NE Cogswell & Harrison 375 Fl NE Sabatti Big Five 375 FL Magnum NE DSC Life Member NRA Life Member

jorge, Im in the UP of Michigan, so my prices might not be typical. But were putting up a 50x28 addition with a two car garage underneath it, a master suite and great room. The entire addition and old house will be log sided and a drainage system put in to alleviate an existing water problem. We also are adding a new furnace and air conditioner system. And a new roof over both structures. Sit down for this one. $85/sqft for the whole package. Pro Staff for: In Natures Image Taxidermy

You should have told the FBI that Jimmy Hoffa was buried there . They would have dug it up at no charge.

I was told by a builder to figure close to $200 sq ft for an addition in central florida. The bigger problem is my property taxes would almost triple!

Its not much but heres a start. I should mention that the well is on the left of the hole (you can see the pipe) and the house is on the right. The remnants of the pipe connecting the two is somewhere under the mound in the center of the picture, leaving us with no water. Yes it was marked. gotta love home improvement Pro Staff for: In Natures Image Taxidermy

It looks like a perfect spot for an addition, nice and square. Glad to know Florida is not the only state that has workers who cut up marked pipe

If there was anything left in the U.P. to hunt it would be a great lodge. Given our low deer densities and high doe/buck ratio, hunting is pretty dismal. The high point is our growing bear population. In one of the previous photos of the back of the house, Im standing in a spot that I have video of two bears. 240x1000= 240000, for only 1000 sq ft home. Wow do they at least provide lube before they screw you?

There is a Jeff Foxworthy line in there. If your trophy room is bigger than the rest of your house .... You know the ending. You gotta' like a guy who hass the brass to have a trophy room bigger than his house. I like the picture by picture progress of the house. Keep us posted.

Thats probably just his gun room , the trophy room will soon follow, he just has to buy the neighbours property and ask Donald Trump for advise first .

366torque, Regarding the lube... don't we all wish. It is one of the many reasons I have got to get out of this Communist run state. I would have loved to do the real log home project. But with the taxidermy business located on the same property it wasn't a good idea. Moving a business is too costly in terms of lost customers. Pro Staff for: In Natures Image Taxidermy

I SEE you have shingles on the addition instead of the steel. Tired of dodging the avalanches and digging out? I have had a steel roof on the house since the late 70s and will never have shingles again. Not with the snow and ice buildup we get. What part of the UP? I went the other way and when I did my house remodel. I made sure I will never have to work outside on the house again. a troll close enough to Grayling to have the guard guns vibrate the house on occassion. NEVER fear the night. Yes we ditched the steel roof for a few reasons. The avalanche that happened in 2001 took the deck right off the side of the house. If your doors are under the avalanche side of the house you can end up with a 4' mound of snow as hard as concrete to shovel out. If your doors are on the gable end of the house its not bad, but Im getting old Pro Staff for: In Natures Image Taxidermy

FOR THOSE scratching their heads... In snow country a steel roof is great because you don't get the snow load problems and the ice on the eves can't crawl under the shingle and bleed back into the house. the downside is that when the weight gets to be too great or the weather warms, the steel sheds the snow ALL AT ONCE. you can have hundreds of pounds of snow clear off in a couple of seconds. Then as soon as it hits it sets up like avalanche snow, basically concrete.. If you don't have your doors planned right you can wind up having to dig out. It makes a great roof for heavy weather and will last almost indefinitely compared to shingles. NEVER fear the night. Fear what hunts IN the night.

Nice space. Are you installing any plywood backing between the studs and drywall to screw the heads into? ALLEN W. Actually, most of the room will be tongue and groove on the walls that will take the mounts. For the drywalled walls, we will be careful to hit the studs. Pro Staff for: In Natures Image Taxidermy
