Folks, at last, whew!, Sundog and I got it done. Mrs. Felix re-verified all envelopes for checks and addresses, and the checks will be cashed this week sometime. There are four addresses in doubt, and I will be making phone calls to the suspected parties to assure the shipping addresses.

The lube was made according to the majority of the buyer specifications. Not sticky, won't melt, will shoot to POA in hunting weather on first shot, and will shoot good without cleaning for a day's worth. The lube is a little dry abd hard for my tastes, but Sundog said it is not any more difficult to lube with in the Lyman or RCBS lubers than the other lubes that flow through the machine without heating. He said to ship the lube, and later provide instructions for personal modifications upon request on the board. ... felix

Bless you and Felix, Sundog!

Yer timing is pretty good, too. There have been times between here and there that my check would have been a little iffy and I am down to my last three sticks of Tamerack.

Got a new challenge for you. Can you duplcate the old Bullet Master? It was the best I have ever seen or expect to see for HV rifle bullets.

I'm extremely happy that FWFL is ready to ship. It sounds like the ideal lube, based on your description.

How about some information regarding the melt? I'd be interested in the logistics of doing a big melt.

Thanks and congratulations for getting it done. Turbo

Yahoo I been await'n.

Ok so I will clean one of my lubrisizers and use it for this lube.

For you with experience should it be the rifle or pistol lubrisizer?

Remember I still have some 50:50 I have to use up.

Folks, we don't have enough experience with the lube yet, but initial trials says it is good stuff. With all of the work it took to make, about 8 hours total, we are disappointed that we filled only 230 containers, which results in two containers (a 20 dollar order) for just over a pound's worth of lube, say a pound and one-third. Sundog filled a coffee can with that splashed on the card tables (somewhat dirty, and has to be strained) during the filling process. I am going to hold 4 good containers back for further mods, in case someone might wish for a different characteristic of some sort. I have enough personal lube that I don't want to keep any of this batch to shoot with, save that required to re-verify the current composition's ability to shoot as intended. Later on I will give instructions to duplicate this endeavor, but never again would I suggest doing this amount in one pass. Pure insanity. ... felix

Felix,

I'm not in on this lube distribution but am sure you're aware of the USPS Priority Mail envelopes that invite one to not bother weighing, just "as much as you can stuff in" for around $3.85. I've mailed off many pounds of boolits that way.

Goatlips, that's what's planned, using those envelopes. The total quantity of lube less than was expected, that's all. We have 85 orders, and some of those want a double order, and there's one three order, meaning 6 little tubs, each having about 3/4ths of a pound of lube. We will have some left over to send later, but just barely. I was hoping for 2 pounds per order, but that just wasn't in the cards. We could have made that issue the number one concern, but the lube quality was/is the paramount issue. Besides, it is damn difficult how to make quality (enough) in such a large lot. Question always came up, on how much to add what, and at what time during the day. ... felix

What goes around comes around and I only wish I lived close enough to have been part of your undertaking. I loaded 100 rounds of 45 AR with the 454190 over W231. This is one of the same loads Felix and I tried when we made this batch of lube the other day. I shot it in an old 1917 Colt with a much less than perfect barrel, and it shot cleanly. No leading and a slight remaining sheen. It's stiff, but it flows through a Ly 450 okay. We also tested in the 35 Whelen. Methinks y'all are gonna like this batch! Like Felix said, if'n y'all are planning to make a batch this big, insanity rules. sundog

Mike, no extra beeswax because we used that as a base, if you will. Everything else was mixed into it (in theory, but actually in reverse sequence), and there is some leftovers of money orders, and cash to exactly equal $1657.50 ... Forgot what the actual cost was, somewhere around 1200, minus a little, I think. Postage will be close to 400 bucks, though. Did somebody say a break even project? If you count wear and tear on a couple of minds and bodies, a couple of us came out in the hole. Well, Sundog and I would rather say "whole" than "hole". We were glad to do it for everyone, but I do rather think this hobby is insane. ... felix

Mike, do it the way you want, BUT, I like to melt small qtys in the microwave oven in a Pyrex pouring cup. Melt only long enough to leave a button of unmelted lube - it will melt on its own - cup is VERY hot. Pour into luber and let cool. No more air bubbles from adding those holy sticks, too.

OKSMLE, are you hangin around? I'm lubing some 314299 with the new stuff getting ready for the December SMLE match. Remember, with this batch of lube, I am invinsible! {BSEG} sundog

Thanks guys for all your work.

Dear Eddie:
I seem to have lost your order for the decoder ring mentioned in your post. If you would please resend the required box tops and the "secret message" you heard on the last radio program, I will send your decoder ring right away. Checks were put into the bank yesterday. All containers were wrapped with zipped locked baggies, and are ready to be stufffed into the mailers today. The mailers are the 4 dollar unlimited weight kind, and have the addys already taped on. No more than several a day will be mailed in order to minimize the bulk going into the car and into the post office at one time.

When you get the order, please use Sundog's trick::: Empty each "quart" container, lube is hard enough to drop out without digging, into a pyrex glass and nuke the half gallon's worth of lube in the microwave and stirr well after melted. If you desire the lube to be softer, add a level table spoon of lanolin giving a slightly stickier mix, or a level table spoon of vaseline to keep it just as dry. Add a mixture of both to go even softer. For a faster speed lube, add a level tea spoon of castor oil. That would require longer cooking, and should not be done unless proven to be required for a specific application. You can do this several times until a complete softness requirement is obtained.

Please send back a mailer with your full name and addy and phone number, plus all of your pen names from all of the boards, with any comments. This will track the shipments for me, and will give me an indication of who got what and what they did with the product. There will be some left over for a reshipment if necessary.

Thanks felix,sundog et.all,
Your hard work is appreciated! One quick question. Does the lube need to be in a completely clean lubrisizer or can residue from say 50/50 alox/beeswax be acceptable? Thanks-JDL

JDL, Felix's advice is good. Just last night I emptied out a RCBS lubrisizer that I had gotten in a trade (free because it was one of those, "Why don't you just take that too," kinda things) that had RCBS pistol lube and a stick of Alox behind it. Just squeezed it all out, picked out what I could, poured in FWFL. The stuff I put in was an old batch of mine cleaned out of a 450 and some of the new stuff. Squeezed some more through and cleaned it out a little more, and then went to lubing boolits. The new BD45s. I poured a HUGE pile in only a few minutes after work just fooling around. Nice moulds, and nice boolits. Now, to see how they shoot....

btw, the 450 I just mentioned. I squeezed out the FWFL (a full column) that was in it, and poured the new batch right on top, let it cool, squeezed out a little more to get all the old stuff out. Worked fine. My old batch of FWFL that squeezed out was recycled into the Pyrex measure cup and mixed with more of the new batch. Everthang seems to be copistatic. sundog

oh, yea, forgot to mention again. When nuking lube in a glass container, stop the nuke before all is melted, leaving a small 'button' of solid lube. The glass (and the handle) is really HOT, so be careful - and so is the lube! Stir it around a little and the button will slowly melt, then pour. This way you're not recooking the lube, not getting it TOO hot.

OK so two guys slaved over a "hot stove" for a day to get us all a batch of lube.

Profit when all is paid for is nil.

I have an envelope addressed and it will contain just a little cash for Felix and Sundog.

What they care to do with it is up to them!
