I am looking for an option for my 500 Jeffery. There are 525gr fngs cast bullets available to me in .511 diameter. I want to shoot a cheaper bullet option for practice. Can these bullets be driven at 2000 to 2200 f/s without bullet stripping? ai also know that some cast bullet manufacturers make hardened gas checked bullets. What is your recommendation? The standard factory loading for the Jeffery is 525gr. at 2300+f/s.

A 0.512" gas checked cast bullet should be no problem at 1600-1800 fps. When you start cranking up the velocity, things start to get iffy. Some guns will shoot cast OK at that velocity, some won't.

Depends on your barrel twist, slower twist is gentler on cast. If you have a 1-15 or 1-18 twist, you should have no problems driving them 2000-2200. In my 500 Jeffrey I've driven a 535 gr cast 2250 fps w/ 100 gr Varget Fed 215. Accuracy was so/so and I haven't had a chance to try and dial in the load.

One chanllenge with the Jeffrey and cast is the short neck. I've found I tend to get much better accuracy when I keep the gas check in the neck of the case, which with the Jeffrey leads to the bullets being seated too long.
