...I had to take it hunting early this morning. I've left it behind in favor of my 6.5 Bullberry IMP on several hunts in a row, so it was time to make amends.

I prepped her for the hunt by swapping scopes and rings yesterday and re-sighting in. I confirmed the zero this morning when I took an old boar coon that had been eating up the protein pellets. There was just enough light to make the shot, and I knew from past experience that the range from my spot to the trough was about 180 yards. As I pulled the trigger and heard the audible "whap" following the muzzle blast, I knew a few pounds of protein pellets were saved.

About 40 minutes and 400 yards later, I was able to take a sow at just over 200 yards. The sow was a small-to-medium sized hog, and the 120 grain BT performed perfectly, driving through both shoulders and dropping her on the spot.

I'd better cut this short now. I have more work awaiting me outside... Big Grin

Here's what started my day.

And yes, I will soon be using Jeffe's recipe. We have some backstraps from last week that are begging to be cooked ala Mr. Osso's method. May try a shoulder as well.

I can't wait.

Just be sure that there's enough water in the bag.. i used too much in the last one .. so, it'll make stock for something else...

Heh, i might just have to try a raccoon!!

I use this for hams and shoulders all the time.. when boomie shot his first pig, i pulled the little guy apart, and chunked both shoulders, both hams, both back straps, what loins there were, and all in the bag. I don't do head/spine, as I am a little leary of spinal fluids .. that because NASTY critters can live in those

I don't think I have ever come across a napping coon like that?!? I usually see them in a tree, coming to a call, or moving around on the ground.

Bob-They only nap like that after they've had the chaser for all the protein pellets they eat. It's a proprietary blend of H335, a pinch of gilding metal and a bit of polycarbonate-tipped lead... Big Grin

HELP!!!

When we got back from church, the dinner fixins with Jeffe's recipe was GONE -- pot and all!

We did meet a truck coming up the drive, and the fellow had a Texas Predator Posse cap on along with some Scentlock camo. I noticed a glint of what I thought was a fork in his vest pocket.

Any ideas who that could be?

And has anyone seen Bob today?!?!?

JUST KIDDING, of course!

All kidding aside, one day when I get my health lined out a bit better, I do plan on making a LARGE feast, and I'd be honored to have you guys over. There's a centuries-old live oak in the front yard to sit under and swap tall tales, a perfect setting to enjoy some good wild game concoctions.

One day, it's going to happen... thumb

Bobby,

There's no better way to get your health lined out than to keep those Bullberry's happy! Good luck and thanks for the great pictures.

Oh, and Mr.Osso, I followed your bag cookin story the other night around midnight Wyoming time and my empty tummy was growling nasty things in your direction...and your way too Whitworth for your long gone pizza.

Best to all!
