Well it's been almost two months since I done any hog killin'.

Saturday will be opening weekend of bow season. I plan to go up Thursday and get a jump start. I'll set some snares and maybe a trap.

If I were a bettin' man I'd lay odds that a couple hoglets will be heading to that "Petting
Zoo in the Sky"

Best,

GWB

A question.
Do you ride them or do you shoot them?
If you're riding them that's Muy Cajones!

What’s the old saying,
Never was a horse that couldn’t be rode, and never was a rider that couldn’t be throw’d?
I just thought I was back in the saddle.

Got to my lease around 5:30 PM on Thursday last. Saw this group of about 20 aoudad at the third bump gate (about 4 miles in off the highway).

Seemed like a good omen.

Got unloaded and went and set four snares, then went to a stand where I have some feeder lights.
The blind I sit in there is at ground level. We’ve had an unusual amount of rain the last three weeks. The hogs have created a mudhole about 10’ round and over a foot deep. The grass has grown so much I could barely see anything below two feet off the ground……..

I sat out until 11 PM. No luck, or so I thought. I have this feeder where it goes off at 9 PM for 3 seconds. Evidently the little buggers came in and ate all the corn between 9 and 11 and I didn’t even hear them. Sure didn’t see them.

Friday morning, and Friday evening I rifle hunted for hogs and saw nothing.

Bowhunted for white-tail Saturday morning, evening and got skunked.

Several years ago one of the guys that is no longer on the lease told me there was a cave at the top of one of the hills way back in a draw. He said he had seen scat from a cougar. My bud and I spent several hours looking for that cave and got lost as goose. We did find two old stands from years ago we didn't know were there. It has grown up so much in the last 20 years or so that it is hard to tell where they were shooting. Never did find the cave.

It came such a frog-choker between mid-nite and 5 am that the dry creekbed we have to cross to get to our hunting area was inundated with about 4’ of water that was too swift to cross. Back to the camper and slept in.

I kept 4 snares set Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Not one was tripped. That is unusual.
Did see this little guy though

Got skunked again Sunday evening.

By Monday I was desperate.

Sooooooo, not wanting to come back empty handed………

As ya’ll know, I’m a proponent of using enough gun for one’s quarry

Now that’s more like it, thighs and wings fresh off the grill.
Well, I’ll be going back on the 18th,maybe I’ll have better luck then

Best,

GWB

I went yesterday to set up the feeders, clean up the cabin, etc.. I saw this rub right on the main trail. I have a feeling it's going to be a good year for hogs.
