Well, the dry spell, caused by the wet weather, is over. Got in the pasture this weekend and filled feeders, trimmed shooting lanes, and swapped spinner mechanism on one feeder. Still no hogs coming to that place and there is still corn in the trap from last week. However, did see a medium sized boar across the fence next to the tank as I was driving in. Don't have permission to hunt that land, so I passed on him.

Went to the other spot (pecan bottom) tonight and got in my hidey-hole at 6:45. Feeder had already spun once but I dropped a double-handful of golden nuggets in the lights for good luck. Settled down in the chair and in about 5 minutes saw a couple of deer through the brush behind the feeder. Forgot my slingshot so I planned on breaking sticks or throwing sticks if they came in and started on the corn. Game cam pics showed the sounder coming pretty regularly about 9-9:30 so I was prepared for a long sit. About an hour later, the first 'coon showed up--a big 'un. Then about 8:00 i noticed a spot off to the left that was blacker than the last time I looked over there. Picked up the binocs, and sure 'nuff, it was a fair sized solitary hog. We played waltz around the feeder for about 20 minutes before I finally picked up the reticle against the big headed boar's ear. Breathe, squeeze, bang, flop. Then I hear "ding, ding, ding" and realized it was kicking the feeder leg, but wasn't going anywhere. A quick peek through the binocs confirmed it was down in the dirt--184 lbs of pork and about 25 lbs of stink.

Some of those old boars you can smell 15 to 20 yds. away as you approach.

Good on ya'.

This one is at the processor now--but not for me. Friend has the hams cured and smoked, and says he can't find any 'taint in the meat.

When I checked the game cam pics this morning, found this one--the cuddeback caught the boar as it started its dirt nap.

I went back to the same place as there was another solitary boar that was coming in early and needed a dirt nap--first pic is his nap 3 nights ago, and 2nd pic is his LDP nap tonight. Same story, 2nd verse, same rifle, same ammo, same result, but this one weighed 188 lbs with about 50 lbs of stink.

He came in early--7:58 but I was picky and didn't take the shot, and then a strange thing happened--two does walked by and he spooked away. Not used to that--but am used to hogs spooking deer. We played "now you see me, now you don't" off and on until about 9:15 and he finally wandered far enough into the light that I could put the crosshairs on his ear and it was lights out.
