I can't hold a candle to ole GWB.

I have been using the 200gr Nosler as loaded by Doubletap, but am switching to the funky bullet loaded by Underwood 140gr Xtreme penetrator. I contacted Underwood to get more info as penetration results are not shown on their site for either the 140gr or the 150gr hunter. They said the 140gr is good for 38 inches of ballistic gel and the 150gr 26 inches. When asked, they state the 150gr is supposed to create more "upset" in the permanent wound channel.
I do not have multiple loads, ie one for practice, one for self defense, one for hunting. The rounds I plink and practice with are the same loads I carry and hunt with. Makes things easier.

189 miles to Woodsboro Texas where I have a "deer lease".

306 miles to Reagan Wells, where I have a "Beer Lease", AKA, "The Petting Zoo".

Having hunted deer with a .41 Mag since 1965 (Ruger & S&W) I have been trying to resist getting a 10mm. If I fail, I would be thinking of using it for:

1. Targets out to 25 yards
2. Concealed carry
3. Hogs out to 50 yards

What sights and make & model of semiauto might be a useful compromise?

(I don't have a concealed-carry pistol that I like at the moment. My 9mm is a S&W Model 39-2. It's too bulky, and feels uncomfortable when driving a vehicle.)

For the money I like my Glock 40 MOS. Way too bulky for most carry situations, though. Its a long slide version of the 20. Like Andy I shoot the Underwood stuff. It worked well enough but this year I'm trying the 220 grain cast 10MM, again from Underwood.

BUT...I bent stainless locking block pins with that load and went back to the hardened ones. And I put a 22 lb recoil spring in it.

There are probably some compact 1911s in 10MM but I haven't seen many polymer ones any smaller than a S&W 39. Maybe not even as small.

Originally I employed a Glock m36 in 45 ACP as my lease carry. However after being charged by the bruiser pictured below,

and putting 7, 230 gr. JHP's in him in about 3 seconds over a distance of ten feet, I decided I needed to be accompanied by more friends.......

I got a model 35 long slide in 40 S & W, which I carried for several years.

I happened on the G20 SF and was able to snag it, with case and two mags for $350 out the door IIRC. It has been my lease carry for several years now. I picked up the Storm Lake 6" barrel cheap and added thata bit over two years ago.

My son has a 1911 style, a Para elite hunter and the M40 MOS, all of which I've shot.

If I were to start over I would do the M40 MOS.

ya!

I remember selling you that 35 long slide. I was wondering if you still had it. Hadn't seen a picture of it with you in a while.

It was my lease carry for several years after you sold it to me.

I even managed to knock the front sight off it.

However, once I got the G20, I pretty much retired the M35.

Still have it though!

Sir,

That is a belt slide by NRFPT Leather.

Never heard of the outfit I'm sure.

Why,

because it is a DBA I filed in order to get the elite discount at Tandy leather.

The NRFPT acronym stands for "Not ready for prime time" leather.

It is stuff I do for myself, and until it is ready for prime time.........

I started collecting custom knives a few years ago and got interested in doing my own knife sheaths.

Making belt slides for my own use naturally followed......

ya!

DAYUM!! Living right, plus making your own leather goods. Sir, I bow down to your superiocity! (new word, you're welcome)

Really like that snake hide insert.

I really like the traditional leather with the "modern" Glock. May do a kydex myself due to simplicity, but that leather looks great.

Thank you for the pictures.

I hunted with a eaa witness compact 10mm for years-- shots from 3' to +75 yards -- on piggies, it usually left a neat gray hole. was odd, carrying two pistols, as I have almost always had a 45 LC with me, of some sort... 180gr at 1250, from houston cartridge company -- used to be cheaper to buy from them than to reload

the wife "stole" my 10, and i've been "only" carrying a 45 LC ever since for hunting -- 250gr XTP at ~1000 fps .. some of ya'll (living and deceased) have seen me nail rabbits with headshots from stupid distances with in ...

i am NOT a pistolaro .. in fact, i consider myself to be a poor shot, as compared to rifles, with one ... but a practice session is usually 200-250 rounds, most at 50 yards, some at 100

Jeff, the EAA Witness long-slide Hunter gets raves from the serious 10mm hunting fanatics. A fresh shipment is due in any day now, I heard second hand from EAA.

I have carried my Kimber 10mm Stainless Target while pig hunting and riding the ATV for several years but have not had the chance to shoot a pig with it. I've shot rabbits though.
I use my own reloads for it. 200gr WFN cast over a near max charge of Blue Dot. Gives me 1250fps from my handgun.

I'm taking a look at the Cutting Edge Bullets 190-grain all-copper flat point in 10 mm. I have heard it is well nigh indestructible and just won't stop penetrating. Seems like a righteous choice for this hog business, but a much cheaper 200-grain hard-cast WFN would probably accomplish the same end. Have a box o' these on the way from Montana Bullet Works.

I am not aware of compact or even commander size 1911s in 10mm. I’ve got a Kimber TRL II, but that’s full size. Also a G40, but even larger. The 1076 is about S&W 39 size, but think they’re quite pricey now.

You can or used to be able to order a commander style 10mm from Dan Weason’s custom shop.

Back when they were doing cast guns they had the bobtail commander as a catalog item in 10mm. I think it was called the c-bob.

I want a 10mm Silverback.
