If you keep on like that.
You're gonna wear that .22 out yet.

After a long drought a few are back at one creek feeder. Nothing at the other two feeders. Problem is, the only direction wind that is bad is north/northeast. We have had northeast wind for the last two to three weeks. Northeast wind does not last this long in December! I may sit tonight northeast wind or not!

NE wind is perfect for one of the bow stands at this feeder—just too danged hot. But I will bite the bullet tonight and go for a sit at my other place.

Next week I’ll be setting the trap.

Well, went to my other place (not where the big sounder is pictured at the feeder) for a sit last night. Weather was perfect—other than winds not being optimal. Landowner has had a big boar coming to his feeder late, and I’ve had a small sounder coming in to my feeder fairly regular. Got on the scene about 7:45 and settled in, got the rest in place (folded towel on the window) and checked baseball scores. Well, first thing was what sounded like a dozen coyotes singing—-but I couldn’t find any in the thermal. Then about 9:30 I see a BIG dark silhouette/shadow cross my shooting lane. Put the thermal on it and it was a big healthy doe. Most of the does around here are still recovering from this spring’s fawns so I was surprised.

Well, had to get up and stretch my legs about 10:15 and scanned around—what? There was one just across the north fence rooting and chowing down. Got the shooting rest out and set it up on my toolbox lid and scoped it out. Rest was too low and the AR was teetering on the magazine. Got a foam cushion to put under it and that stabilized things. Zeroed in and waited until the pig turned broadside and I could put the reticle on the magic line between eye and ear hole. Squeeeezed it off and dropped it in its tracks. Weeds were tall enough all I could see were legs waving and kicking. Got the flashlight out and walked towards it. When I got to the fence, realized my range estimate was a bit short — due to the large size of the hog. Measured his length and girth to plug into the on-line weight estimator and dragged him off to the buzzard buffet. Calculated weight is 178 lbs.

george--

Broke it again this morning with the trap--about a 110-lb stinking boar.

Good deal, not much bigger than a pup.

But a dead pig is a good pig, right?
