...and more may be on the way. It came within 2 inches of being in most of the house and did make it into the back rooms a bit. But the bottom of our flooring is wet, and there is water and mud in the AC ductwork. We abandoned ship around 8 this morning and finally were able to get back home late this afternoon. The top photo is of the road leading to our property (begins at the treeline). The middle photo is the same creek at a enarby Farm-to_arket road, and the bottom is pretty much slef-explanatory. The cows -- about a dozen in all -- were on the other side of the road and were swept across. THe others were taken into the swift portion, and their fate is not known. Thanks for the kind words and prayers. It is appreciated. It could have been much worse than it was. We all got out safely, and that was our only concern. Had a little trouble getting out of our driveway and out from County Road 308, but we were able to stay at a neighbors. They were kind enough to take us in as all roads leading our were impassable. They took us in before, though. In 1997, we lost everything and very nearly our lives and barged in on them at 4 in the morning after spending a couple hours on the roof. That's when we learned how unimportant material things really are. Back then, there was no way to get flood insurance as this was not considered to be in a flood plain and had never flooded before. Now we are insured, so I hope they make good on it. So today was just a hiccup in the road of life. This is what our walkway looked like after all was said and done. Thanks for the kind words and the prayers...they are truly appreciated. And for those of you still praying for rain to end this drought, you can cease and desist for a few months. We do have flood insurance, and the adjusters were out here just before dark yesterday. Now it's just a waiting game. There is lots to be done, but we were extremely lucky as this was NOTHING compared to the flooding we endured in April of 1997. Back then, we lost everything -- the house, all the contents, the vehicles, the cattle, the sheep, the goats -- and had to literally start from scratch with nothing but the clothes on our backs. (And after that ordeal, the clothes on our backs wasn't in too good of shape ) So this was just more of an annoyance than anything -- and all will eventually be fine. Gato-As to the brewery, I hear it's business as usual over there as they are not in an area that generally floods. Then again, NEITHER ARE WE!!! Here's a little wider shot of CR 308. That white speck in the distance is our mailbox and the entry to our property. Beyond it some 50 yards lies North Mustang Creek, and that's where the deepest and swiftest floodwaters were. To put things in perspective, where the picture was taken is right at 400 yards from the mailbox. Marko The fence on the right side of the road can't be seen. The fence on the left is built up onto an elevated terrace. So I'd say most of that water is only about 3.5-4 feet deep. After all of that went down and we got to go back in (about 7 hours later), the creek behind our house still was raging. The creek bottom is pretty significant, so the water is these pictures will run anywhere from 5 to maybe 16 feet deep. From the base of the creek bottom to the level of drift on our house is about 22 feet, so that's what the deepest portionmeasured at the peak. In 1997, either FEMA or one of the other agencies estimated it was 27+ feet. Bobby Μολὼν λαβέ The most important thing in life is not what we do but how and why we do it. - Nana Mouskouri | |||

Not likely, hogs can swim like a fish and will do it just for the fun of it. They'll be rooting around in the debris lines before the water is back in the creek banks, you can bet on it. xxxxxxxxxx When considering US based operations of guides/outfitters, check and see if they are NRA members. Bobby, I just picked up on this as I don't look at the hog forum too often. I very sorry to hear about your situation. I hope y'all can get back to normal fairly soon. I have noticed these big rain events seem to start in Texas and move across Arkansas with less intensity for the most part. We have gotten a pile of rain tho. 17 inches in first two weeks of September. Still raining today. Got your Pentax scope OK. My eyes like it. I'll be praying for you and your family. Take Care. Thanks for the kind words, fellows. It's getting better, but we still have lots of work ahead of us. Insurance was to have mailed a check yesterday, so that will certainly help. We are having to take all of the insulation out from underneath (what's left of it, that is) and replace it along with the AC ducts and some of the flooring. And the cleanup with all of the drift, limbs and trash that washed up is just beginning, as is the ordeal of having to try and clean out lawn mowers, chain saw, etc. But we are thankful as it could have been MUCH worse.
