Dustoffer, Yep your right...sometimes its getting darker..so you stalk closer set up and then...its a little too dark so you get closer...but in the time it took you to move it got even darker...so then you just make your best judgement call...and your shot placement is off. So you hit a little lower than you thought and nearly take the leg off...and even with a broken ohter leg they run into the prickly pear. Then you have to go after them in the dark...and th ehunting gods get back at you by sticking you with all the cactus spines. Mike Legistine actu quod scripsi? Mike-you were ragging me about wearing shorts-but I did not get a single cactus spine!! Experience shows. (And, by the way, the shorts over snake boots are my South Texas FASHION STATEMENT) However, Jeffe was in front of me and he doesn't understand that you go around cactus, not through it. He's a great trailbreaker. To your credit though, you shot the pig where it had the greatest opportunity to go into the thickest part of the ranch--what great sportsmanship on your part. Jeffe-I guess the next thing you'll say is that you were preparing for a strategic withdrawal should the hog decide to assume the offensive? Did you notice how I tried to stay in proximity to a climbable mesquite? An old pilot, not a bold pilot, aka "the pig murdering fool" | |||

txjss- EXCELLENT shooting, after over 30 years of hunting pigs ANY shot that drops a large boar RIGHT THEN & THERE is a good one. I would hate to track a wounded boar in the bush, been there, not fun. Whether you hunt by knife & dogs, archery, or firearms the reality of hunting is you will run into a situation where the animal does not expire instantly, you have to accept that fact or might as well give it up.
