Has anyone tried hunting with game callers ?

What are your experiences so far? Any product you would recommend (for hogs)? I am thinking of it to use as a complement to odor baits

I am quite interested in the Cass Creek one http://www.casscreek.com/prod_boar.html but I am not much convinced yet about how realistic those grunts and squeals might be ... from what I can hear from the demo, those sounds seemed quite artificial , but would like some first hand opinion if anyone happened to hear them directly out of the product itself and better if in the field thumb

Thank you all in advance

Sounds good enough, Jeff... at least so as to give it a try, even more considering its unexpensive cost

Hey, L !
I am developing my odor baits' techniques and this game caller seems to be a good complement to use with ... at least so as to see how it performs on wild hogs (another way to satisfy our curiosity and have fun as well)

November will be the month when this game caller and some smoking sticks (smelling like rotten meat) will be tested at the zone of Santa Isabel (rivesides of the Atuel, in western La Pampa, where the last biiiiig tuskers can still be found thumb )

Anxiety is killing me BOOM

Martín: it seems that November will see us all at La Pampa. In my stomping grounds there was a rain of big hogs during June (I was not there of course and a pal got one with tusks measuring 26 centimeters). Regarding baits, some fellows I know used the "beds" from sows in heat....the "padrillos" came like flies to the honey or so they say.
I´m still amazed at Bill´s pictures of that bull moose...at least in La Pampa one can feel confident that no such beast will confuse an Uruguayan with a statue Big Grin

This will be my first attempt using artificial attractants and masking scents - and will probably use this game caller aswell, which in fact I doubt about its effectiveness if used alone, but I think it will be a good complement if used with odor baits... did I tell you I am fascinated by the social reactions of the hogs Cool? In fact sometimes I wonder if some attitudes I watched were dictated by intelligent thoughts not mere instincts !!

I am so anxious about trying to cheat these intelligent masters of survival that actually I am not sure if to take my cam or my rifle !!

Just one thing: WHERE, HOW and WHY did the became thee great figures they are ? Wink

And for the record, you can add my own grandfather to that list Cool ... my father's father was an uruguayan that had to cross almost swimming the Uruguay River, with nothing more than he was wearing ... and had to start from zero again in Argentina (he was quite an important landowner living in Salto and was obliged to leave Uruguay due to political reasons)... and to him, my country also rewarded his effort with certain prosperity Smiler

Perhaps the fact that he spent only some decades in Uruguay before coming to stay in Argentina helped him Big Grin Big Grin

Well thank you for your kind words, my friend .. but I believe that that small stain Big Grin is quite insignificant in my genealogical tree, rather washed up after two generations of pure argentinians (as pure as any good argentine, with germans, italians, british, spaniards ancestors - and some other more from other places (like uruguay) Cool

Not meaning to cut in on you guys thread, but from what I have experienced, hogs are not real good at responding or coming into a call.

Javelinas are another matter, especially when in family groups. JMO.

Have any of you used any of the commercially available scents -- hog attractants?

I will try some sort of smoking sticks which smell like rotten meat and will see if to complement them with this mentioned game caller and /or hog urine... will see on the field what might seems to be more convenient and act consequently

I am quite confident about their response ... Cool

Will post the results thumb
