I know there are some wild populations in Missouri and/or Kansas. I'll be in Nebraska the last week of the month for a hunt, but this is an 'imported' herd on a ranch. Still should be fun though! Here in Minnesota, there are lots of domestic pig farms. It's not the cold that would discourage them - they are really remarkably adaptable animals.

A number of people have attempted raising wild boars in pens in Manitoba and Saskatchewan only to find they were not as good at building pens as the wild boars were at getting out of them. The result is there are now wild boars at large in both provinces. We normally see a couple weeks of -40 degree weather each winter and the hogs seem to manage just fine. Wild boars can be hunted in Manitoba without a license. They do ask that the nearest game warden be notified where and when any hogs are shot.

How far north does the climate support wild pigs? I always see Texas, Florida, Lousiana, but the wild boars or Germany and Russia have to be more tolerant of the cold...I think. So just how far up the east coast can you find wild pig hunting? low_tech

As a matter of fact, Ft. Reily is having a big problem. They are knocking down the wild turkey population, big time. The Deer and Elk are holding their own right now. Hunting the base is allowed, but you have to schedule in advance, and they only let you in certain areas. It's still an active military base, and bombing range. They have tried to thin the pigs out, but the Blackhawk helicopters spraying the trees w/M60's just didn't do very well. But it sure sounds like fun!
