Thanks to my health issues, I haven't hunted hardly at all for a long time now, but I got lucky in that hogs have decided to come much closer to the house. Coupled with the fact my father-in-law gave me his ATN MK410 Spartan night vision scope, I decided to mount it on my 7mm Bullberry and see if the hogs would cooperate. I nearly had a shot last night before the wind shifted and cleared the field, but tonight, things worked in my favor, and I took this fellow at app. 75 yards. While the night vision setup is big and bulky -- and will take some getting used to -- I am pleased as punch with the results. You'll notice the hog is wet. No, we didn't get to end our drought. I had to rinse the boar off as he had bled profusely from both the entrance and exits of the double-lung shot. Am thinking of putting a picatinny rail on a Vanguard .308 WCF that I have and putting this Spartan rig on there. I don't need full-powered loads for the limited range of the NV and am thinking about loading some 170s to around 22-2300 fps. Midway has the reasonably-priced rails on backorder, so I am going to take a look at a couple other places later today. Am actually excited about this new project... That's excellent Bobby! Great to see you still posting, and poking hogs with that Contender. Night vision huh? Pretty advanced weaponry you're bringing to bear there on those piggies. Nice job. Si tantum EGO eram dimidium ut bonus ut EGO memor

Chris- My father-in-law bought that unit to put on a DPMS .223 a year or 2 ago, and it just didn't pan out for what he intended. So he put a Nikon BuckMasters on his .223 and dropped off the night vision unit over here a while back -- and told me to try it out. Well, I did...and he then told me to keep it as he decided he preferred a conventional scope to plink and hunt with. It's definitely a change of pace for someone old-school like me, but I have to admit that it certainly has some distinct advantages for hog hunting -- and especially in areas where they've gone nocturnal. i hunted with tactical hog control.. with night vision .. at the ranges we hunted.. less than 75 yards to shoot, gen 1 might have been fine ... after sundown, hogs are DUMB, and blind.. and don't hear all that well (really) .. the wind is their friend. opinions vary band of bubbas and STC hunting Club Information on Ammoguide about the416AR, 458AR, 470AR, 500AR What is an AR round? That's pretty cool Bobby. The last night vision I looked through was in the mid 80's when I was still in the service, and it was an older unit. Gen 2 I think? Maybe Gen 1, I don't remember, but it would attach to the carry handle on my M-16. It was kind of a piece of crap, and very grainy to look through. It had it's own tube hard case you kept it in during daytime, and if you ever turned it on and took the covers off in daytime, they told us it would fry them. I never did it to see if they were right. I remember not being very impressed at the time. You could see shapes, sure, and tell the difference between a man and a cow, but that was about it. You couldn't tell the difference between a "good" guy and a "bad" guy though. The only way you would know which they were is if they were in their correct "spot" or not. Not good. Sounds like the "new" ones are far and away improved. Si tantum EGO eram dimidium ut bonus ut EGO memor

Bobby, Hope you're feelin' better and doin' better too! Congrats on the piggie. I really do want to play with NV as well. My 300 BLK is finished and shoots well. Haven't worked with the suppressor yet as the paperwork has been terribly slow, and my bud in Dilly has an NV scope for me to use. I have been wanting a night vision scope for hunting hogs but can't really justify the expense. A while back, I bought one of the Laser Genetics ND3 "imitation night vision", and the boar I killed last night was the first time in the woods with it. It worked well.
