We see something similar when the tunas on the prickly pear get ripe.

Ever notice out there or where there is a lot of pear, the pigs and the javelin like to chew the roots? I have found a few over here where the pigs will get a pear root up, start chewing, like chew the bark off of it, never cut the root? There may be 3-4-5 feet of a root on the ground and the bark completely chewed off of it. Just an observation…..

Yes ir I have seen that from both, but deer, both white tails and mulies will also do that at times.

I like to show clients the skin from a prickly pear pad after the javelina have rooted all of the goodies out.
