I wouldn't have believed it if I didn't know some of the people involved but they dogged and killed a 600 pound plus boar in SW Ark today, probably about 10 miles as the crow flies from my ranch, across the Red River. Boar was about 6'6 from tip of nose to base of tail and 6 feet around shoulders. Friend of mine has his head in his cooler to be mounted. Head and cape weigh 151 pounds with good tusks. Amazing. If I can get pictures I'll post them.

Biggest wild pig I've ever seen (and killed) weighed 325.

Man that's impressive, I must be in the neighborhood, Prescott Ar. Whatever details about location you could provide I would be interested. Promise not to try to move-in on anybody.

Goodluck with the pictures, I really would like to see them. The largest I've seen have been around 300 lbs, and that is a biggie for everbody, dogs included.

I got a few more details, pig was 6'3" nose to base of tail, not 6'6". As I said, the cape and head, as you see them, including the tray (which might weigh 3 pounds) weigh 151 pounds. Pig was very fat. When catch dog hit him, he basically rolled over, day was relatively warm and he was probably hot. Hunters caught him alive and had him tied up, but couldn't figure a way to load him, so had to kill him to get him out.

Larry:

Pig was caught in extreme SW Ark right on Ok line just off Red River which is a fair distance from Prescott, farm he was on is SW of Foreman, Ark. Farm raises mostly peanuts, corn, and pecans. Hard to tell in pics but his teeth were worn way down. None of us really know how to age a hog, but we think he was 6 to 8 years old minimum. Here's one more photo of his nose with my hand/palm next to it. This is not a trick photo, hand is dead even with pig's nose. Big nose!

BTW to those who don't know, this is not an everyday hog, another local dogger caught one (weighed) last year in the area that went 550 and I've heard from semi-reliable sources of a couple of other 500 plus pigs in the last 10 years or so, but I, nor anyone else I know of in this area has ever seen or caught or 600 pounder. A once in a lifetime pig. This is also not some released tame hog.

I posted this pic before but this is a hog that I killed last spring or early summer. The big one weighed 298 and was not fat at all. Fat, I'd say you could add possibly a hundred pounds. I'm kind of standing between the two pigs, and I am 5'11" so I'd guess the hog to be about 5'6" or maybe a bit less, nose to base of tail. Add 9 inches in length and a lot of fat and Walllah! a monster as above.....

Charles:

I guess it's really a function of food availability and distances required to get it. While I'm not a farmer, I've got a few thousand acres of farmland next to my place and the pigs make regular visits. We very commonly kill boars and sows (more boars than sows by a guessed ratio of about 3 to 1) that weigh over 200 on my place, very infrequently one (once a year or a bit less on average) that weighs over 300, and, as I stated, the biggest I've personally had anything to do with weighed 325. I have seen recently one boar on my place that I'm sure would weigh 400 or more but, so far, he has been too elusive. I dunno whether it's just me or not, but almost everytime I shoot a good sized hog, I think it's smaller than it is before I get up to it. The opposite of "ground shrinkage". I'm not a dog hunter so I have to shoot 'em. About two years ago, I and one friend of mine, at different times, both saw a hog that we believe would weigh at least 400, could or could not be the same one I've seen recently, but in my case, he broke cover after I'd just killed a big sow and a couple of smaller pigs and was empty. I think that hog is a gentleman, "Women and children first." clap

Thanks Gatogordo for the info. You're right that's a fair distance from my second home. I havenot seen anything like that hog here, and I don't think we have groceries to produce one here.

Again thanks for the info and photos.

That is a heck of a hog!

Around here, a fully mature boar will usually go 180-240 pounds. I've been fortunate enough to take a few that were well beyond that, but those are rare creatures indeed.

The 2nd largest I took was this past summer and went 353 on our old farm scales (I figure accuracy to within around 7-8 pounds). The largest one I have ever taken was estimated at 400 or slightly over, but because of an approaching t-storm, we did not weigh him. The 353 pounder was rolling fat and had incredible girth. The larger hog had much more length and only a fair amount of fat on him.

Here is the 353 pounder from this past summer:

Bobby:

That is a big hog and dead fat. I don't think I've ever taken one so "rolly" but I'm willing if one shows up...... clap I guess it's not surprising since there are so many types in their genetic make-up but I notice that some hogs are kind of short and stocky shaped, similar to the idea of draft horses, and some are long and lean, more like race horses.

Here's my biggest hog from a few years back. This one is the opposite of the 353 pounder in my post above. This one is much longer overall but has nowhere near the fat of the other hog.

In the photo -- taken with a 50mm lens, so there is no wide-angle distortion -- my left knee is against the side of the hog. I am 5'11" and at that point weighed about 195 pounds.

And I completely agree with you in that there seems to be at least two distinct types of genetic makeup with these critters.

The biggest I personally saw killed in South Texas went just over 200 I think -- maybe 215? Can remember but I think we actually weighed it. bewildered

I am sure they killed bigger but I was not there at the shot.

Like you, I tended to think of the ones I shot as on the small side until I had to lift them into the truck. Eeker Still probably only averaged ~100-125lbs.

Thats a damn good un no matter how ya slice the chops.

I have taken two we did not have scales big enough to weigh,

this was the first which took three of us to roll into the bucket,

this one almost got me after busting it broadside with a 7x30 Waters and 140gr bullet, it came straight to me and if not for the rifle I also had things might not have been good the rest of that evening.

The Contender is sporting a 14" barrel for comparrison and I am 6' and in that pic went 205.

This one went 365#,

And this one went 320#

Most of them average between 150 and 200 but we have seen several that are bigger than the biggest ones we have gotten. Just getting them in the sights is the problem.
