Bigreddwon425lb boar
425 boar We were watching a peanut farm about a month ago and this ol boy came out with about 20 of his friends. We had a really unfavorable wind and tractors parked in a bad spot. We had to maneuver into the only safe firing lane and that gave us about 3 seconds of shooting before they got too close to the tractor. It was that or nothing. As we got into position the wind shifted and I heard a grunt. My buddy and I set up on our Primos trigger sticks and each shot once at the largest hog. Pow, thump, plop.. Sounded like one shot. As we walked up t him we were floored with his size, pictures just don't do him Justis. We got him on a scale and it was 425 on the dot. Brad says to me 'I bethca we shot the same hog' Sure enough he had two holes just behind his ear about 1 1/2" apart.
I was using a Rugar SR556 with Gen3 NV and Brad had my Bushmaster Varminter with the Thermal scope..
We both used Hornaday 75g BTHP, in 223.
Brad took the hog to get mounted, I'll post pictures when He gets it done. This is the largest hog to date I've personally seen on the ground.
We were within 30 yards when we shot. One other boar fell at about 200 yards straight out, the other 18 hogs ran right to the tractors they walked in past, no shot opportunity, was a home on the other side. He should have stuck with them!
This was at 2am in Parrot Georgia.

georgeldThere was supposed to be four hogs over 400lbs where I hunted in Fla this July, but, didn't see them except when it was so black they were just an image in the darkness. Couldn't see the crosshairs or I would have shot one.
Thanks for posting this picture to give me an idea what I was looking at/for. Goodness sakes that's a monster up close!

BigreddwonBefore he was put on a scale, I really thought it was over 500. I'm 240lbs and his head looks as big as me! I'd say most folks add 40-50% to some hogs doing the "eye scale" as opposed to a real scale. Its easy to do, they are hard to judge and especially if they are moving fast in the dark!
Hogs in the 150-200lb range are still pretty intimidating when your both on the ground, eye to eye so to speak.

BigreddwonWe took 591 hogs in 2011 with 223's. They are more than enough with the right ammo.
