Well, I had decided to give it up as it was hot and buggy last night and was collecting my stuff prior to walking to the truck. One last look at the feeder and there he was. Got the rifle back on the shooting sticks, and popped him. Down he went--no movement. Looked again a few seconds later and he was flopping around. Before I could get off another shot he was gone! Walked over to the feeder and found blood in a couple of places but no definite trail. Then I noticed a strange noise--labored and bubbly breathing. The weeds were mid-thigh high and I wasn't too sure I wanted to wade in to them to find him and I couldn't get a good read on the direction the sound was coming from. I kept scanning with the thermal and found him--on his belly. Popped him again and he rolled over. Walked up to him and he didn't look dead enough so I popped him in the ear. Good sized one--calculated weight was 192 lbs.

Nice one! Congrats...

I just got back to TX and am not even sure there's corn & protein in the feeders. I wated to fill them before I left but ran out of time, and I know they were low.

Will have to check tomorrow. But just for grins, I may take a look outside a little later tonight "just in case..."

Thanks, George. I'd be happy to never see another copperhead LOL. We've killed 23 total so far this year, and 20 of those were right around the house/walkway.

Monday is cooler and winds will be right so this gal is my next target, but I'm taking my bow this time! Any bets on how many little ones inside her?
