I just got back from my Mexico hunting lease about an hour south of the border from Nuevo Laredo. We are trophy deer hunting, participating in 2 tournaments, Angadi in Mx & Los Cazadores in Tx. I've never seen so much game activity, variety of game & most game are not near as wary as I'm used to. It was nothing to see 30-50 different bucks per day, scores of hogs, waterfowl constantly making noise & lots of javelinas. I love the land, culture & people of Mexico...the bad are few in my experience & please don't go there with this thread.

On the first afternoon hunt out of a 15' tower blind, this boar was mean as hell, chasing off anything that came near him or the corned road. I wasn't hunting for hogs, but I have had bad luck with hunting them in Texas, going on a couple of expensive hogless trips in a row. Well, I decided then, that it was time to kill that mean hog & end my hogless curse. Ranged him @ 183 yards, aimed my .300 WSM on his eyeball (I love challenging eye shots) with a 165 gr Barnes TSX. Bang Flop...the boar dropped like a heavy sack of potatoes, didn't kick or squeal at all, lights out & dirt nap. The bullet entered the eye, as desired & went in an angle destroying the lower opposite jaw with a 2" bloody exit. Upon closer inspection I realized he had 3.5" tusks, wow they were sharp like a razor, I was a happy hunter.

The last photo is a pic of a feral sow with 9 shoats that showed in camp every night to be hand fed & petted. I was like, wow, where's a ball peen hammer? (just kidding)

If you do Mexico by the book, avoid the hot spots, know espanol & have mexican connections, no fear. The bad are few, the good are numerous. They are our neighbors, we have our differences & problems, yes...however, we don't live in a perfect society. Again, please no negativity on the issue, Thanks.

That is a terrific boar with some impressive cutters. Around here, they rarely have anything in the dental department, so to speak.

Not yet, I have a couple of more trips to make before the January 27th, the end of season. I am hunting a double drop that the rancher has seen that we haven't yet. Hopefully he'll make a mistake when rattling this next trip. I also have my eye on another buck & hope to see more to choose from.

Nice pig Camo. If someone from the upper 48 saw that country down there with all the brush, you would not think a goat could scratch out a living. After you have been in the brush for a while, you become amazed at how much wildlife it does support and very well with a little rain. Suggestion: get your self a couple of quail traps. Lead free quail, grilled over some good rotten Mesquite on a Sunday evening when the sun breaks, with an adult beverage......... Life Is Good, Enjoy !

Thanks for kind reply swifter, you seem to know why I love to hunt down there, it is amazing. One of the reasons I signed onto this lease is due to 2 older trophy hunters who have taught me alot about hunting & they are only interested in muy grande venado. As for the quail traps, we had 2 setups & didn't catch a single one, while seeing quite a bit of both bobwhites & blues. We put up 3 traps per set up in a U shape with a rebar to secure them & of course lead a trail of corn to the traps. A cold beer & fresh mesquite grilled quail after an all day hunt, we are spoiled. Hence, my favorite saying, "Life is Good, Enjoy!"

Getting rifles/shotguns into Mexico is easy, just have to submit the paperwork, read ALL the rules, keep a copy of the rules with you at all times & follow them perfectly. Mistakes will get anyone prison time, no excuses, even one live round of ammo that's not registered.

You mount them on a walnut plaque, with the uppers and lowers, with a cartridge or bullet (preferably the one that killed the pig) in the middle.
