Been after him a while but our paths have not crossed---yet! This is a pic of him in the trap which was unset. And obviously (at least to me) he has just come from the swine spa. Big Grin

His schedule is erratic--8:30 then 3:30 then 10:30 etc.

200+ pounds.

PS wait till he is cleaner if you plan to process him. Otherwise, good feed for buzzards.

It's hard to tell without more angles, but it does seem he has pretty decent girth though shy on length. I'd guess 221.

222 Very tight skin or so it appears. Looks lean, well rounded and dense.
Hope you drop him soon so we know for sure.

Well , I am sitting in ambush waiting for the big ‘un, but abiding by the landowner’s rules I am to shoot the pregnant sow first but not let the rest get away.

Sat until 11 and had only see a deer, a coon, and a 'dillo so went for a walk toward the trap and the muddy tank they enjoy so much. Got about 150 yds south and scanned and picked up 4 moving around erratically. Walked on towards them closing the distance to about 75 yds intending to get to a tree for a rest and take a shot. The group split and two of them went into the brush over the hill. The other two started moving towards the trap/tank and eventually went into the trap. I sneaked up to about 40 yds away, got a rest on a big post oak and when I could see the hog's ear hole thru the square opening in the trap, I touched it off. The other one bailed out and I couldn't get a decent shot so just watched him run off.

The big one didn't show but this sow weighed 80 lbs or so I'm guessing.

What's with the repeater?

George--the repeater was me thinking I had copied the link to the picture and didn't check the post afterwards---but it's fixed now.

Got pics of at least two preg-o sows at the other feeder as well--so I'll be back at 'em tomorrow night, even though our community will likely be in a 'shelter in place' order--got to go check the herds at the ranch after all.

Legistine actu quod scripsi?

Never under estimate the internet community's ability to reply to your post with their personal rant about their tangentially related, single occurrence issue.

What I have learned on AR, since 2001:
1. The proper answer to: Where is the best place in town to get a steak dinner? is…You should go to Mel's Diner and get the fried chicken.
2. Big game animals can tell the difference between .015 of an inch in diameter, 15 grains of bullet weight, and 150 fps.
3. There is a difference in the performance of two identical projectiles launched at the same velocity if they came from different cartridges.
4. While a double rifle is the perfect DGR, every 375HH bolt gun needs to be modified to carry at least 5 down.
5. While a floor plate and detachable box magazine both use a mechanical latch, only the floor plate latch is reliable. Disregard the fact that every modern military rifle uses a detachable box magazine.
6. The Remington 700 is unreliable regardless of the fact it is the basis of the USMC M40 sniper rifle for 40+ years with no changes to the receiver or extractor and is the choice of more military and law enforcement sniper units than any other rifle.
7. PF actions are not suitable for a DGR and it is irrelevant that the M1, M14, M16, & AK47 which were designed for hunting men that can shoot back are all PF actions.
8. 95 deg F in Africa is different than 95 deg F in TX or CA and that is why you must worry about ammunition temperature in Africa (even though most safaris take place in winter) but not in TX or in CA.
9. The size of a ding in a gun's finish doesn't matter, what matters is whether it’s a safe ding or not.
10. 1 in a row is a trend, 2 in a row is statistically significant, and 3 in a row is an irrefutable fact.
11. Never buy a WSM or RCM cartridge for a safari rifle or your go to rifle in the USA because if they lose your ammo you can't find replacement ammo but don't worry 280 Rem, 338-06, 35 Whelen, and all Weatherby cartridges abound in Africa and back country stores.
12. A well hit animal can run 75 yds. in the open and suddenly drop with no initial blood trail, but the one I shot from 200 yds. away that ran 10 yds. and disappeared into a thicket and was not found was lost because the bullet penciled thru. I am 100% certain of this even though I have no physical evidence.
13. A 300 Win Mag is a 500 yard elk cartridge but a 308 Win is not a 300 yard elk cartridge even though the same bullet is travelling at the same velocity at those respective distances.

Hell that's a six footer easy!

Did you eat it too? Whole lotta
fine eats in one that size.

Just remember they can and will
strike 3/4's of their length.
One that long will nail you within
5 feet or close.

Great background on that board too.

Many thanks,

George

I just wish it wasn't so damned
far down there from here.
At least 900 miles. A bit far to
ask someone to hold 'em in the cooler
til there's enough worth making the
trip to pick up. IF anyone would do
that!
I sure would like to have at least half
dozen of 'em for eats.

Been maybe 8-9 years ago but as I recall it was chewy and not much flavor. Would I eat it again? Yep, but it is more of a survival food in my mind.

the one I fixed: breaded and boiled
in peanut oil sure was good. Let it
drain over night in the fridge. Was
told that helps a bunch. So I did.
Cut up within the hour it was killed
at our range even.

it is more like gator than chicken .. chewy is a good word, but doesn't quite get there for me.. it's tough-in-bundles .. small ones.. i like it cut into medallions and battered and fried into fritters .. there aint much meat on them, so a 5 footer is about the smallest i'd mess with for food, not survival, situation ..
