A little story and pics from my friend in South Texas on his ranch. It is a continual battle with the hogs in his fields.
I left the house about a quarter till 8 and drove to within 1/2 mile of the milo field... Since I knew I was going to walk long and fast I just took my rifle and a crappy LITTLE Cannon camera ...

I walked to the crop field and then down the middle road for about 1,000 yards then turned through the maize and walked the middle until I got to the bottom of the field and the creek. It was after sundown by then so I turned towards the truck which was about a mile from where I stood. I had only gone a few hundred yards when I looked towards the woods which are about 2 miles away and saw a group of pigs traveling at a long trot towards the maize field they were maybe 800 yards from me at that time. I had my work cut out trying to intercept them. I held onto the rifle and started jogging at a good clip to cut them off. I only ran about 500 yards and was as close as I was going to get. There were either five or six sows and bunch of little ones, maybe a dozen. They were in that long, ground eating trot about to go into the crops when I dropped the first one, she was a bit less than 100 yards. I loaded the rifle and got on the second one which was hauling ass to the cover of the maize when the bullet caught her. Again I worked the bolt and hammered a third one just as it was going into the crops.. I took a couple of snapshots of the two that went down on the prairie. Didnt' even go look at the other one in the crop.
Butch, these and yesterdays were shot with the 120NBT in the 6.5. Complete penetration on all... Todays were all running but at close range, 80-100 yards max..

Pat is shooting a 6.5X47Lapua that he built to shoot these. I do enjoy his little storys. Seems like I am there.

Got to wait a couple of days for it to dry out a bit before I can go again. Couldn't get to the feeder on the far side of the creek right now, and the other place, well, I don't want to drag a hog back to the truck which I'd have to park at the barn and then walk in.

And, they are waiting for me--napping under the feeder.

Dustoffer,
I've told the story of another friend that has a solid bench set up 800yds from his feeder. He likes to shoot them with his 300Ultra w/240grn bullets. He has a nice Schmidt&Bender scope, he has already ranged it and only worry is the wind. He hardly ever miss

Is it just coincidence that I thought to check the hog hunting forum while eating a bacon breakfast burrito? Probably not!

Thanks for the story and pics. I'll hopefully have some to post myself before too long. I'm about to make a pig run.

Hey Butch-

Let's hear the specs on your rig, unless they have been posted elsewhere. If so, would you mind hitting us back with a link?

The rifle does look familiar.

Kenati,
This is not my rig. It belongs to Pat Byrne, a friend of mine. It is a 6.5x47Lapua. I'll call Pat and get more info.
