The great thng about trapping pigs, is the trap is there 24/7 ready to do it's thing. What I enjoyed the most about this group, they were all guilts(young sows). If they avg. 6 per litter, twice a year. That is 48 less rooters from them, and 24(1/2F) x 6 = 144 from the offspring. You kill a boar, you have only killed one pig, kill a sow and you kill hundreds. Nice going! Today, as we turned in to our property, I saw an older sow with either 10 or 11 piglets (I counted 10; my wife counted 11) that must have been about 6 weeks old. They all appeared to be in terrific shape, perhaps attributable to there being a bumper crop of just about everything this year. Most litters around here, by the way, seem to run from 5 to maybe 8. Good job, although, like most on this thread, I was expecting ONE BIG hog... . We've shot and trapped so many on my place that it they have REALLY gotten hard to kill or trap. They just about won't come into the "standard" smaller traps. I guess we're going to have to build some larger cow panel traps next.Cold weather may help too. 48 degress this morning, first day in the 40s this fall, been damn warm for this time of year. I had two buddies of mine on my place last Sunday, they were going to get an old deer stand to rework it......I tell EVERYONE, and they should really know it better than most, to NEVER go anywhere on my place without a gun.....sure enough, they got about half way there, and ran into two sows with a bunch (estimates ran between 18 to 24) of piglets, just smaller than a football....one friend, who's a real hog man, bailed off and caught two of the piglets with the sows (this is pretty impressive if you've ever tried to catch one, especially doing broken field running among oak saplings) this is all in some 8 foot high oaks that I'm letting regrow for deer habitat, obviously for hogs too, I guess, sows standing there about 20 yards off in plain sight, grunting and trying to gather their pigs up.....other friend, older, was staying on 4 wheeler and watching sows, no rifle.....friend who caught the pigs, out of breath on his 31st birthday which was Sunday, said, "I ran out of hands and breath at about the same time." I think they've named one of the piglets "Bacon". xxxxxxxxxx When considering US based operations of guides/outfitters, check and see if they are NRA members. That's why I titled it the way I did. I did say .....pigs, though. To bad your buddies did not have a pair of "tactical" shotguns with buckshot. They could have cleaned up those "footballs" at least. I have had the same problems of not trapping hogs. I guess they are all attending night school on avoiding traps and hunters. I know of some guys here who have gone to using night vision equipment and laser mounts on AR-15s to night hunt hogs.
