I wasn't able to sleep, so I figured as soon as I could see, I'd step outside and take a look for any creatures. Sure enough, within minutes and nearly straight up on the 6:00 hour, a big blob appeared near a feeder. But at the same time, a wisp of fog from the creek rolled in and obscured my view enough that I wouldn't chance a shot. The fog moved through in no more than a minute, but the "blob" was nowhere to be seen. So I stepped away and moved to another shooting rest in the yard where I could see to the creek bottom...hoping that was the direction the hog had gone.

In no time at all, through the Meopta binos I could see the deer tensing up and then lifting those white flags and running. The hog appeared but was in a hurry, so I figured as soon as he'd slow down, I'd take a shot. He cooperated and came to a near-standstill as he approached the creek bottom, and that's when the dot of the Duralyt 2-8x42 affixed itself upon the vitals. I touched off the 7mm Bullberry and sent a 120 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip across 203 yards of space (ranged it after the fact and after better lighting!).

Oddly, I did not hear the impact of the bullet as I often do with the little 7mmBB. But the hog veered left and went less than 20 yards before piling up. The bullet took the boar app. 3.5 inches behind the near-side shoulder and ripped through the lungs before exiting the center of the opposite shoulder. The exit was nickel-sized and left plenty of blood behind should a tracking job have been needed. But alas...it wasn't. Smiler

Great story and great job on that boar. Good seeing you being able to still give the pigs hell. Take care of yourself.

Thanks. Here's a little better pic. I didn't pay much attention when looking at them the first go-round.

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......

Whassamatter with you Bobby?! Don't you know that a Nosler Ballistic Tip won't penetrate enough to kill a hog, especially a big one like that, and especially when the bullet is light for caliber like a 120/7mm! That hog must have been nothing but a sack of air for that bullet to have gone all the way through.

Oh . . . pardon me, I guess I was just reading about 50 posts on how inadequate the B. Tip is and how it blows up on the skin and got carried away with the propaganda. I guess that I forgot how the solid base of jacket metal holds half or more of the bullet's weight together and allows it to penetrate about as far as any other expanding bullet of its weight.

Dead hogs don't lie, do they?

Congratulations and continued good hunting, Bobby!

Thanks! Those internet myths about the Ballistic Tips just don't seem to go away, either. But that's OK because it leaves more on the shelves for who people like you and me... Smiler

One valid complaint about the Ballistic Tips is that they don't leave a good blood trail. That's true. I don't think I've ever seen a blood trail left by a Ballistic Tip that was more than about 10 feet long. No sport in tracking those at all, whereas if you use a good, tough bullet you can sometimes track them for hundreds of yards. Now that's sport!
