Last June I sent my never mounted original Redfield 3x9 Widefield Accu-trac to Iron Sights, Inc., in Tulsa, OK. It had been in the flood of May 2, 2010, and I wanted it checked out and any necessary repairs made if required. A friend of mine had asked me to sell it to him and I didn't want to sell it until I verified it was in excellent condition. I called Iron Sights and spoke to a very nice lady who felt sure it would be no problem; that they didn't have an original manual, but they would send me a print out copy. I also asked about calibration rings for various cartridges and she said maybe; no promises. I was to send $80 to cover any inspection, repair and return shipping, and to expect its return in six months. No problem there.

Mid January, 2011 I gave them the first of numerous calls...no answer, left multiple voice messages along with name/address, and scope model. No return calls...ever. Several emails were made...none returned or replied to. This went on until yesterday...when I received my scope back. What I received was a gutted Accu-Trac with a fine duplex crosshair. No yardage indicator, or explanation as to why the change over. The repair sheet only states:
"Replaced lenses: Objective & Optical"
"Replaced reticle: duplex"
The rest was for cleaning services and resetting the reticle to center of optical axis. Now when I look through the scope I see a wavy, fine duplex. Reminds me of looking through a cheap Tasco. My original Redfield Widefield Accu-trac now appears to be a much lesser scope, certainly not what I sent in for inspection & or repair. I would at least expect a phone call or email explaining any problems...but none. Oh, and the locking rings; they appear to be used or maybe worn. As mentioned, mine had never been mounted on a gun and still have the original stickers on the scope. Aluminum does not rust...these have spots where the blue is gone. Before you ask, no, I did not call them...as mentioned, they do not answer my calls or emails. I did my research and they have a good reputation as far as I can tell, but I only expected better service. Time will tell if this scope will at least make a decent 3x9x40. Very disappointed.....

"Peace is that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading" - Thomas Jefferson

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......

"If you're being chased by a Lion, you don't have to be faster than the Lion, you just have to be faster than the person next to you."

Before you give up completely and write your scope off, have you considered writing them a letter with your complaints as you have laid them out here?

I'm not apologising for anyone, but occasionally screw ups happen in most all endeavors, heck shipping may have grabbed the wrong box off the shelf, and a letter might help right the situation.

If you were going to be selling this scope, might you still have some pictures of it somewhere or possibly the purchaser? Perhaps a side by side with your other scope could be helpful in getting this resolved to your satisfaction.

for every hour in front of the computer you should have 3 hours outside

If I were to look for a business to do repairs on an old Redfield scope I WOULDN'T consider Iron Sight in Tulsa. REASON: I sent my 3-9 power Redfield Low pro Widefield to them back on March 1, 2011. They kept my scope for 10 mounts without even looking at it but rather cashed my $80 check I sent along with my scope. I called them this past July (2011) and the person I spoke to said I would receive my scope by the middle of December, which I didn't. I called them once more last week and asked about the status of repairs on my scope, and this is when I learned they haven't even looked at it yet. So I instructed them to send my scope back along with the $80 I sent them. Got the scope back poorly packed in "Bubble Plastic" + a check for $70 and not the full refund of $80!!! I learned they have several complaints against them for service according to the BBB. So I too filed a claim against them. This is not a good company to deal with if you want repairs on your older Redfield scopes. Mad

Iron sight normally takes about a year to repair a scope. They are the only game in town and everyone is sending them old scopes.

I once got a Weaver back from them that a bit of dirt on an inside lens. The good news is that they immediately took care of the problem when I returned it to them. I did not have to wait an additional year for name to come up again in their lottery. Wink
