I really need some input on a scope that will be good for a !000 yard shot. Most of my shooting however will be less than 500 yards. I would LIKE to stay under $1000. Any and all input will be greatly appericated.

I was going to say Nightforce, but the $1,000 cap kills that. A scope for 1,000 yards will pretty much kill the rifle's use for closer-range hunting. I like a 4 1/2 x 14 for my long-range rifles, but I don't shoot 1,000 yards either.

A 1,000 yard shot at what and taken how? What your target is and in what manner you intend to take the shot nearly always makes a difference in the kind of optical gunsight that is best suited to the situation.

If you are talking about a scope for 1000 yard shooting would you also take into consideration a scope mount with extra elevation built into it (if the scope doesn't enough elevation adjustment)?

Go with the Vortex Viper. There are numerous options under that line that run anywhere from $500 to $900. They have a ballistic calculator on the website and videos to show you how to use the calculator and create your own drop dial. Plus the waranty on their optics is awesome.
