Got to second the Burris Sig rings. Inserts work something like a ball joint, so no force in the wrong direction can torque the scope tube. Yet grip the scope fine so it isn't bothered by recoil. The plastic inserts won't hurt the finish. No lapping needed. No shimming because you can get inserts to correct various scope alignment problems, again without putting stress on the scope tube.

Lap rings or buy top quality machined rings (I like EAW).

As mentioned above, the Burris Signature series is a great choice - due to its synthetic inserts. Sako's Optilock mounts also uses equivalent inserts.

Ditto the Burris Signature rings. Been using them since day one and they work great.
