OK, I just received the following from my contact at Minox:

Attached are what I have for reticle images. For the BDC reticle basic drop approximations can be made for a 30 caliber center fire rifle; sighted “dead on” at 100 yards the first stadia line would be 200 yards, and the 2nd stadia line would approximate 300 yards. The up-right hash marks on the center line approximates the bullet drift for a 10 mph crosswind and the ends of the lower stadia lines approximate the effect of the same 10 mph crosswind at 200 and 300 yards. These approximates apply with the power settings of the 3-9 and 2-10 at maximum magnification, with the 3-15 it is at 10x and with the 4-20 it is at 16x.

All ballistic reticles can only provide accurate drop points from test shooting the specific weapon upon which it is mounted. Even then it only is accurate for the same ammo and will vary with temperature, altitude, and barometric pressure. Most shooters understand that such reticles are a tool which needs to calibrated and not a magic wand out of the box.

Personally I would probably sight a big game rifle to be dead on at 200 yards and then test shoot to determine point of impact at the additional stadia lines.

Why were you under that impression? Minox is a German based company

Because all of their products since spinning off from Leica have been Asian. No?

Last year the USA VP of Leica Sports Optics went over to Minox to revamp that company. Yes, many of Minox's optics were made in Asia, however, they were always a German company. The new APO-HG and the latest HG series are made in germany (The HG German is replacing the HG's formally made in Japan)
I think in the next few years you'll see Minox become a leader in Sports Optics

That is correct. They just moved the manufacturing of those to Germany and the new price will be $1595.00. Same Germany Shott glass just different manufacturing location.
I'd say the ones you've got are a screamin' great glass and the price is awesome too.

Doug those are nice looking scopes with nice specs expecially the 2x10x40. Very light weight and a wide FOV. Can you give an estimate of the thickness of the reticles when compaired with some other scope such as a Leupold reticle? As my eyes deteriorate I like a thicker reticle like a German #4. For example the Zeiss Conquest Plex seems thicker than a Leupold and I like it better.

Doug, How would you rate the Minox compared to a Zeiss Conquest scope -- clarity, quality, etc.

I cannot answer until I have a real opportunity to do a side by side which should be about 2 weeks

Interesting, thanks for the info Doug. After using their spotters, I am a Minox fan, kinda wish they had a 1-4x20 Illuminated scope in the works, well, maybe they do, have to wait and see, Waidmannsheil, Dom.

I just received the following from Minox:

Attached you will find a revised Specifications Sheet for the ZA Riflescopes. Please note the changes made in the weights listed for each model. The initial information was developed from engineering design documents. The new information provided was determined by actually weighing production samples. The greatest change is with the ZA 5 4-20x50 SF which was listed at 25 ounces but actually weighs only 18.9 ounces!

Also you will note an added line in the Windage/Elevation section which states the image plane placement of the reticles. All ZA models place the reticle in the second image plane which provides for a consistent (non-magnifying) visual reticle size at all power settings. This is the “classic” placement of reticles in American style riflescopes.

Are Minox and top line Steiner of similar quality?

These Minox are made with German SHOTT glass which is made by Zeiss and I'm thinking you'll be equally as impressed with the optics and more impressed with the cost

How do these new Minox compare to the Zeiss Conquest line of scopes? The price point appears to be identicle.

Actually I think the Minox prices are lower and the optics should be superior
