I'm stuck on the fence between a Leupold VX-6 1-6 x 24 with either a duplex or german #4 or a Trijicon 1- 4 x 24 with green post.

I have a Trijicon 3-9 x 40 with a red post on another rifle and I like it, so no qualms with the Trijicon. I don't feel like I need an illuminated reticle on this gun, but the trijicon post is very quick. The only drawbacks on the trijicon is eye relief and narrower field of view.

I'm leaning towards the Leupold VX-6, but I'm interested in whether folks feel like a #4 is quicker than a duplex. I don't have any experience with a #4.

I mainly bought this gun for an eventual cape buffalo hunt. I actually have an asian water buffalo hunt coming up in a few weeks and wanted to scope it for that hunt.

What's the concensus? Trijicon or the Leupold with either a duplex or #4?

Leupold w/duplex or the heavy duplex if that reticle option is available.

I have a VX-7 30mm 1.75x6 in Gunmetal Gray that I'm not using, if that's of any interest. It has the heavy duplex which is faster to acquire and more visible against mixed backgrounds.

I like and use either of these on my 375's also available w/o illumination

I have a Leupold 1-6 on my 7x57. I'm extremely pleased with it. I would gladly put one on my 375.

I just put the VX6 1-6 with illuminated #4 on a .416 and liked it so much I ordered another one for my .404, and also putting one on my 450/400.

If you are going to be using it for Dangerous game, either scope will be just fine. I would recommend that you also use quick detachable rings in case you need to ditch the scope in the thick jesse. I don't use my .375 for DG therefore I have Leupold or Zeiss in 4.5 x 14 x 50 on my .375's. My ld eyes need a little more magnification.

I took off my Leupold 1.5 X 5 and used a new Redfield 2 X 7 for load development. Like it so much left it on. On my left hand SS Ruger 375.

I was wondering about the new Redfields now that they are owned and made by Leupold. I haven't been able to look at one yet.

I have the VX-7 on my 375 Ultra--and really like it. I have a VX-6 setting in a box right now waiting for a project...I really like the VX-6's..

I just put a Vortex Viper 2-7x32 on my M70 375. easy to work with and excellent clarity of glass.

I have a 2 X 7 Viper with the circle around the duplex. Very nice clear scope.

2.5 x 10 Swaro illuminated on mine. I liked the variation in magnification in Zambia.

The Leupold 3 power might be an excellent candidate. I have used them on 375's in the past with great luck... good field of view, nice eye relief and suitable power. These have been re-introduced by Leupold thru their custom shop.

I ended up buying a Zeiss Duralyt 2-8 x 42 from Doug at Cameraland. I already have the Leupy QRW rings and bases.

I thought I'd give everyone an update. I got the scope from Doug and it's a really nice piece of glass. My impressions are very favorable. The glass is extremely clear. The number 4 is a little thin in the center for hunting in dark cover for my taste, but it's still very nice. Unfortunately, the scope tube length is extremely short. With Leupold QRW rings and bases, it's too short for a Win M70 .375 H&H Safari Express.

I'll be sending it back to Doug and moving on to a Leupold VX6.

Understand you are using QRWs, but Leupold does make an extension ring for the QRs. I'm running QRs with an extension ring with a short Leupold VX-III 1.5-6 on the M70 375 H&H Safari Express,

My old .375 wears a Leuopold VXII 2x7. Nothing fancy but I have been quite pleased with the set-up over the years. Last spring I bought a new Sako 85 stainless .375H&H. At first I put a swaro 3X10 w BRH reticle on it but didn't like the site picture. too confusing with all those lines. So I took that off and put a swaro z6 1X6 ee w/German No.4 reticle and I like this very much. nice clean site picture and a lot of magnification range.

Leica 2.5-10x42 with the #1 reticle on mine.

The first scope I put on mine was a 2-7 vx2. Great eye relief but did not like low light performance. I then had a 3-9 conquest, great eye relief and better low light performance. I now have a Schmidt and Bender Zenith 3-12 on it, the scope is big but it has good eye relief and fantastic low light performance, as good as my binocs. I do not hunt dangerous game, so the 3 on the lower end suits me fine. I used warne qd rings in case I have to follow a moose or black bear into the thick brush, but generally a good first shot takes care of any following up.

That´s what I use also.

I´ll wonder, how it keeps up under recoil.

Glass is clear, but FOV is lower limit.

Plastic Turret caps are cheap. Handling of illumination control is meh.

I am using the same glass, but with Warne Steel bases and rings ( medium ).

Fits just fine.

I hope the Zeiss Duralyt 2-8 is better than the 3-12 I looked at. The ocular housing was so fat and tunnel-visioning, the only advantage I could see was that if it hit you it might not draw blood.

Why would anyone use anything but a Trijicon 1-4 on a 300 yard rifle intended to shoot big animals ?
Have the old 1.2-4 1" on my RSM, you could shoot it in complete darkness if you had to.

I run a fixed four power Leupold on my lightweight, stainless synthetic Remington 700 in .375 H&H. I use a 2.5-8 Zeiss on my blued steel, walnut stocked, Sako 85 in .375 H&H.

I like fixed power scopes. I think they are tougher than their variable powered counterparts. They are lighter, more compact, the eye relief is always constant and non-critical. The variable powered scopes are better when I am punching paper.

I have never felt I was at a disadvantage in the field with a fixed power scope.

You are not at a disadvantage with a fixed X scope.

The Trijicon has none of the usual variable weakpoints and a reticle that is unequaled for any situation outside of P-dogs at 500 yards. (I am talking about the post, not the stupid dot)

You should give one a try, especially for DG or hunting in the "Black Timber"
